Although they weren’t seen, the four, 2nd generation DigiDestined were part of the Digimon Tri movies, during which they were captured after a devastating battle before being rescued. They made their official return during Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna as they help investigate and stop Eosmon from capturing other DigiDestined kids. The latest movie will finally reunite the 2nd generation team in a new feature film, which was previously teased in 2022.

The official release date of Digimon Adventures 02: The Beginning has been revealed in the latest trailer for the upcoming theatrical release. The latest trailer features scenes from the original Digimon Adventures 02 series, with previews of the revealed ‘First Digidestined’, Rei Owada. Toei Animation recently released the trailer with English subtitles for fans to enjoy the recent trailer, which teases the new adventure and story for the upcoming movie that will release in Japan this year.

It’s fantastic that we are finally seeing more from the latest movie for the Digimon franchise, especially since it features the Digidestined from Digimon Adventures 02. Fans have been awaiting the returning debut of the team, who have yet to be the focus of a recent release. Fans are curious to find out what Digimon may return in this new movie, including the iconic armour Digimon and DNA Digimon such as Mangamon and Imperialdramon. Fans are also expecting new additions during this movie aside from Ukkomon since Hawkmon and Armadillomon have yet to Digivolve past the ultimate level.

Minus TK and Kari, none of the other digi-destined from 02 have had their Digimon digivolve past champion-level by themselves. The Beginning may see Veemon, Hawkmon, Armadillomon, and Wormon get to mega-level. Or we may even see the return and advancement of armor digivolving and DNA digivolving as those were staples to the 02 series. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Digimon Adventures 02: The Beginning will be released in Japan on October 27, 2023. The theatrical release has yet to be revealed outside of Japan and more announcements are expected to follow closer to this date.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
