KingOhger Finally Confirms Unique HachiOhger Motif For the 47th Sentai

Ohsama Sentai KingOhger has officially confirmed the motif for their Black Ranger, Hachi Ohger. The Ranger has been a source of confusion due to the translation for Hachi (蜂/ハチ) meaning bee or wasp. Fans have yet to be given official confirmation for the Ranger in the 47th Super Sentai series which includes 5 Royal Rangers with insect motifs. Speculation regarding the motif has now been put to rest thanks to the social media post from the series representatives.

Ohsama Sentai KingOhger currently consists of 5 Rangers that are kings of each country in Chikyu. The Black Ranger of the series is named Hachi Ohger, who is the lord of Tofu, the country known for agriculture. The lord portrayed by Sō Kaku is named Kaguraghi Dybowski, who is described as a man who will do anything to get his way but always smiling. All 5 Rangers have debuted in the first episode of the 47th Super Sentai series, however, only a brief introduction has been granted for most members, with episodes highlighting each character coming soon.

The official Twitter for Ohsama Sentai KingOhger has revealed that the motif for the Black Ranger is a bee. The post addressed the confusion and the “tsukkomi” comments that even speculate the Ranger is a Yellow Hornet motif. The full confirmation now confirms that the God Hachi is also a Bee Shugod in the 47th Sentai series. Additionally, the post for Bee Day has revealed that the transformation sequence performed by Sō Kaku will be the longest, with a duration of 15 seconds.

It is great that this translation and motif interpretation has been addressed, especially since the name could have been a Bee or Wasp. The Bee motif makes sense for the Lord of Tofu, due to a hive working together to obtain and make food. This greatly fits the aesthetic for Hachi Ohger and the Kingdom he rules, plus there could always be a hornet or wasp Shugod introduced in the future. The reveal of the transformation performance by Kaguraghi is a nice added fact as Sō performs a wonderfully theatrical sequence, which will be amazing to see for the first time for his debut episode.

The Wasp and Hornet are also aggressive insects that attack for food rather than making their own, meaning they wouldn’t fit the concept of the Kingdom. Although, if these Shugods were ever introduced as new additional Shugods, these would likely be weapon-based like the PillBug and Snail Shugods that have recently been released. The only known additional Shugods are the three golden Shugods, the 4 weapon-based Shugods, and the rumored White Ranger’s Shugod. These include the Kabuto Beetle, Scorpion, Grasshopper, Pillbug, Snail, Centipede, Cicada, and a new Spider Shugod for the additional Ranger.

Ohsama Sentai KingOhger is currently airing every Sunday in Japan, via TV-Asahi. Episode 2 coming on March 12 has revealed a focus on Tonbo Ohger and Kuwaga Ohger, but a focus episode for Hachi Ohger is expected soon.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
