Fans in the United Kingdom are going to get the chance to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 a little earlier than originally anticipated. As reported by Digital Spy, the sequel has had its UK release date moved up two days. The film will now hit UK theaters on May 3, moving up from May 5.

The change is due to the coronation date of King Charles III, which is scheduled for May 6. This way, audiences and the studio will have a head start on the weekend with the massive event planned. Tom Linay first reported the news on Twitter:

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 RELEASE DATE MOVED UP IN THE UK DUE TO ROYAL CORONATION

Per Digital Spy, Walt Disney Studios later confirmed the news on the date switch for the upcoming feature, so it will now debut in UK and Ireland on Wednesday, May 3. The Royal Coronation of King Charles III is a sensible reason to move up the release date in the UK. This will give British audiences a chance to see the film before the media frenzy due to the coronation.

The upcoming sequel will see the iconic cast take one last ride together. After settling into life on Knowhere, their lives are upended by an echo from the past of Rocket. Now, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, has to rally his team on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life. If they fail, Rocket could be lost, and it could be the end of the Guardians team as we know them.

This looks like it has the potential to be the most emotional journey yet for the Guardians. Not to mention, it will more than likely be Dave Bautista’s last appearance as Drax, with the actor even saying goodbye to the character as he reminisced on a gathering of the cast and crew on his Instagram account.

James Gunn is back as writer and director for the sequel. The film stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Dra the Destroyer, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo. The new film also introduces Will Poulter as Adam Warlock and Chukwudi Iwuji (Peacemaker) as The High Evolutionary.

This will certainly be Gunn’s last outing for the film series and MCU for the foreseeable future. The filmmaker has taken on a new role as the co-head of DC Studios for Warner Bros. Discovery. He’s also writing the screenplay for a new upcoming big-screen Superman reboot. So, there will more than likely be a large sense of finality to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The sequel is produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Sara Smith, and Simon Hatt as executive producers. So, while UK audiences are getting to see the film earlier on May 3, the film arrives in US theaters on May 5.
