Quintessential Quintuplets Movie is a Bitter-Sweet, Heart-Pounding Finale

The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie

Scenes and performance

There is a cluster of events that makes the movie seem better off as a third series but does a brilliant job of adding key moments that define the final reveal. The challenge of Futaro telling the difference between the sisters without their personal effects has been a significant feature of the movie. The most confusing element of the movie is the “if Futaro” scenes, which confuse the timeline of events by using this method. However, each sequence for the girls has highlighted their build to the moment of selection, which is a better way to create a solid love and bond with each character.

Although the scenes state an ‘if,’ the sequence of events is still concreated but represents the various perspectives of each sister, Itsuki and Yotsuba delivered the most dramatic moments in the movie, but both Nino and Miku provided key scenes showing their development. Itsuki and Nino have been granted the best story progression as they tackle issues relating to the past, which feed into their future. Throughout each scene, Futaro has been a catalyst that has helped each character but takes the joint spotlight once the chosen sister is revealed.

Revealed Story

The connection to the past with scenes of the revealed sister has been eye-opening. This creates a full circle of events and even reveals more about the day that Futaro. It also grants a true explanation regarding the obsession with studying and how it relates to the little girl that Futaro met.

The movie ends the story with an overwhelming joy that relates to the connection hidden from view. It is only in these last moments that all questions are answered as even the series barely touched on the path that leads to Futaro’s decision. Both Masato Jinbo and Keiichirō Ōchi have done a fantastic job of tying the loose ends together for Haruba’s story.

Finale events and Overview

The big reveal is difficult to discuss without presenting the spoilers involved, but it was impossible to guess. Considering the story reveals, it was a revelation that makes sense, but the entire series and movie did a fantastic job of misdirection. This includes forcing viewers to cheer on their selective favorites based on what they believe to be the right choice, especially within the movie.

Fundamentally, The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie is the last installment that requires viewers to watch the 24 episodes. Due to the events leading up to the reveal, there would be a lot lost in the moment without two seasons leading up to it. If viewed as a standalone movie or as a prequel, naturally, the flare and gravitas would be lost.

The drama leading up to the choice was heartbreaking as all a witness wants to see is each girl happy, but the show points out that life is a mix of choices and consequences. The only piece missing from the experience is seeing the journey’s aftermath, as four of the girls were left in a bitter state.

It would have been ideal to see the girls continue growing till they reach happiness for all to bear. Although the closure of their paths has been showing, it would have been amazing to see how the other 4 have evolved their relationship with Futaro. As an anime movie, it is a beautiful demonstration of growth, pain, and joy but heavily relies on the past content to hold substantial weight.

The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie is available for a limited time in theatres for fans to enjoy in the US and UK.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
