RICK AND MORTY GEARING UP FOR HOLIDAY FINALE

Rick and Morty entails the titular mad scientist and his grandson balancing their life between family and interdimensional adventures through alternate realities. Rick lives with his daughter Beth and her family, often dragging her, his son-in-law Jerry, granddaughter Summer, and grandson Morty into his schemes.

The series was originally based on Channel 101’s web short, The Real Adventures of Doc and Mharti, a parody of Back to the Future. After its success, Roiland and Harmon made additional shorts featuring Doc and Mharti, diverging from their basis and evolving into their own characters.

In 2012, Adult Swim approached Harmon searching for someone who would create a new primetime animated show for the network. Harmon contacted Roiland for help with animation, and he agreed to bring in the characters used in the Doc and Mharti shorts, now called Rick and Morty. Although there was uncertainty and reluctance surrounding the concept during drafts, the resulting episode garnered critical acclaim, and the burgeoning success led to an entire franchise.

Rick and Morty stars Justin Roiland, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer. Along with having created the show, Roiland and Harmon are also executive producers, having additionally created Solar Opposites and Community respectively.

Season 6 brought surprises that changed everything in the entire show. Several key characters turn out to be alternate versions of their originals, one resulting from a mix-up Rick made all the way back in Season 2, and another from Season 1. It is quite a lot for newcomers and casual viewers to take in, though long-time viewers are eager for more.

After the airing of “A Rick in King Mortur’s Mort,” Adult Swim released two promos anticipating audiences on what is to occur in the finale. As indicated in the title and the first promo, it will be a Christmas-themed episode, with the Smith-Sanchez family having experienced significant character development throughout the season and the show in general.

Meanwhile, the second promo leaves enough room for speculation as to what purpose the sushi restaurant near the Sanchez residence will serve in the story and comedy.

The Season 6 finale of Rick and Morty, “Ricktional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation,” will air on Adult Swim at 11:00 pm EST. Following the episode’s broadcast, Adult Swim will also premiere the Adult Swim Yule Log, rated TV-MA for language and violence.
