WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair and Peacock announced this week that a new original documentary, Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair, will debut exclusively on the streaming service on Monday, Dec. 26. The new biographical documentary will cover The Nature Boy’s life and career over the last 50 years.

The documentary will feature new original interviews of Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and more, along with never-before-seen footage. Flair said on the new original film, “Many stories have been told about The Nature Boy over the past 50 years.” The former 16-time World Heavyweight Champion added, “I’m thrilled to have partnered with WWE and Peacock to produce the most accurate depiction of my life to date and hope audiences enjoy the ride. Woooo!

NBC Universal EVP of Unscripted Content Rod Aissa added on the announcement, “Very few people have professional careers as storied as Ric Flair. We can’t wait to give Peacock audiences this revealing, in-depth, and often raw look into the life of one of sports and wrestling’s most controversial icons.”

The new film is directed by Ben Houser and produced by WWE. It’s executive produced by Kevin Dunn, Chris Kaiser, and Chris Chambers. Marc Pomarico and Dan Pucherelli serve as co-executive producers on the project. Tom Rinaldi serves as the narrator/interviewer of the film. At 120 minutes in length, this will look to be the definitive documentary about the legendary pro wrestler’s iconic career.

At 73 years of age, Ric Flair returned to the ring once again, teaming with his son-in-law, Andrade El Idolo, at the Ric Flair’s Last Match event that took place in Nashville, Tennessee earlier in July. Even after his initial in-ring retirement in 2008, Flair has remained an American icon and pop culture persona. His famous “Woooooo!” catchphrase is still heard in stadiums and arenas throughout the United States at sporting events, and he’s also become a major influence on the hip-hop music scene.

The new film will offer a look at the man behind the legend his and outrageous onscreen persona. Flair will open up about his historic career, both in and outside the ring over the course of the last 50 years. Other interview testimonials in the film will feature boxing legend Mike Tyson, Post Malone, Stephen A. Smith, and his daughter Charlotte Flair. They will join in telling the story about “The Man” of pro wrestling.

Considering this documentary is produced by WWE, that means the film will be able to cover a very wide breadth of Flair’s career with the best footage possible. That is due to WWE owning much of the video library of Flair’s illustrious career, from NWA to WCW to his stints in WWE.

There have been some solid documentaries and career retrospectives on Flair before, most notably ESPN Films’ “Nature Boy” episode of 30 for 30. So, it will be interesting to see how this one differs or offers up something that fans have not really seen before regarding Flair.

What do you think of the news? Do you expect this will be the definitive documentary about the career of Ric Flair? Are you hoping it explores any subjects or deep cuts that have not been covered about Flair’s career before? Do you plan on checking it out on Peacock? Let us know what you think about the news in the comments or on The Illuminerdi Twitter account.
