The wait is almost over. The Last of Us will premiere Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023 on HBO Max. The nine-episode first season will tell the story of Joel and Ellie, one that PlayStation fans know very well. Taking place 20 years after the fall of modern civilization, Joel (Pedro Pascal) is hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone and across the United States. What started as just a job for, the journey becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey across the ravaged lands that were once brimming with life.

THE LAST OF US PLOT THICKENS WITH THE NEW OFFICIAL TRAILER
The latest and last official trailer for the series came out earlier today. There’s some new information that newcomers to the series might not know. The brand-new scenes gave us a glimpse of what to expect from Joel’s relationship with Ellie. We also see Bella Ramsey acting a little more than we had previously seen. There are scenes and characters that fans of the first game will immediately recognize.
The trailer also revealed some of the game’s biggest twists. Ellie shows the scar of where she was bit, and, somehow, survived to tell the tale. What is also more surprising is the fact she didn’t turn into one of the infected. The trailer also reveals that a cure is being worked on, and Ellie serves a bigger role in it than she could’ve ever imagined.
As previously reported, the DLC called “Left Behind” is also translating into the small screen. In the game, Ellie and her best friend Riley hold a fort inside an abandoned mall in Boston. The story also follows Ellie as she gathers medical supplies for Joel in an abandoned mall in Colorado. The similarities between the places take Ellie on a journey as she remembers the times Riley and her shared.
TROY BAKER AND ASHLEY JOHNSON ARE IN THE TRAILER
Although Pascal and Ramsey weren’t on my personal wishlist of actors I wanted to see take on the roles of Joel and Ellie, I’m still excited to see them portray the characters in The Last of Us television series. I think they are more than capable of honoring the past performances of the characters in the games, as portrayed by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.
One interesting tidbit that we also got to see is that Baker and Johnson are playing characters in the television adaptation. We see Ashley Johnson holding a baby, sparking rumors that she might be playing Ellie’s mom. Troy Baker is seen as a member of a militia. The IMDB of both actors now lists their credits in the show with Johnson appearing in three episodes, while Baker is expected to appear in just one.
The upcoming show stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, Storm Reid as Riley, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon, and Elaine Miles as Florence. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker also star.
I personally cannot wait to watch The Last of Us. It is my most anticipated series of the forthcoming year. I am such a huge fan of both games, despite the backlash of the second.
