Daredevil: Born Again is set to film on location in New York City next year.

It seems that these last few months have been a whirlwind of Marvel news, with trades reporting breaking news and castings left and right. The Illuminerdi dropped a major scoop, revealing that fan-favorite Aubrey Plaza is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The news immediately made its way over to THR and Deadline, the latter reporting that she’s playing the villain in the upcoming Disney+ series.

The news surrounding Plaza comes right after Heartstopper star Joe Locke joined Coven of Chaos earlier this week in an undisclosed role. Marvel fans also recently got another incredible casting, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II signing on to play Wonder Man in his Disney+ series. Both casting announcements come right off the heels of Marvel Studios’ massive San Diego Comic-Con and D23 panels.

Needless to say, Marvel fans have been living large recently, with the media giant making one headline after another, all while releasing numerous Disney+ shows. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law recently wrapped up its first season, bringing Daredevil into the MCU.

Fans eagerly awaited Daredevil’s return in She-Hulk following Charlie Cox’s appearance as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel Studios dialed up the hype during D23 with the announcement of Cox and Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio returning for their own Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again. The show tops many fans’ lists as their most-anticipated future project, with hopes for a reunion of the Netflix cast.

We at The Illuminerdi can exclusively reveal that Daredevil: Born Again will shoot on location in New York City, starting in February 2023 and lasting until the year’s end in December. Of course, this could change given any unforeseen hiccups, but Marvel Studios currently plans to use the majority of 2023 to film Born Again.

The show shooting on location in New York City is an interesting change to Marvel’s usual filming process. Generally, movie studios choose to film in Georgia, given the state’s production-friendly taxes resulting in cheaper production costs. The change to New York City for Daredevil: Born Again means we’ll get a much more authentic New York feel to the MCU’s Hell’s Kitchen, which is enough to get most fans excited.

Another interesting point is that Netflix also filmed Daredevil in New York City, with shooting locations in Brooklyn and Long Island. It’s unclear which neighborhoods Marvel Studios will use for Daredevil: Born Again, but the similarities are enough to stir up those questions about the Disney+ series possibly being a continuation of the Netflix show. The report also lends itself to our information on Agatha: Coven of Chaos from earlier this week. Born Again filming in New York frees up Atlanta for Marvel Studios to shoot Coven of Chaos there from January to the summer of 2023.

Daredevil D23

Marvel Studios has yet to reveal any details regarding the plot of Daredevil: Born Again. First announced during San Diego Comic-Con, the series will feature Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returning as Daredevil and Kingpin, respectfully. The show will run for 18 episodes, longer than any other Marvel or Star Wars projects made for Disney+.

Cox, D’Onofrio, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege took the stage at D23 to chat about the highly-anticipated series. However, since production doesn’t start until next year, the trio did not reveal any further information. Many fans expect more actors from the Netflix series to reprise their roles, but Marvel Studios has yet to confirm or deny anything.
