“Oh, what a day! What a lovely day!” The upcoming Mad Max prequel, Furiosa, has wrapped production based on a recent Instagram post by actress and star Anya Taylor-Joy. Taylor-Joy shared the news earlier this week, sharing some photos and thoughts on the end of the shoot.

In her Instagram post, Taylor-Joy praised the film’s cast and crew, saying how much of an honor it was to work with them. You can check out the Instagram post on the film wrapping production below:

MAD MAX: FURIOSA PREQUEL WRAPS PRINCIPAL PRODUCTION

Speaking on the production, Taylor-Joy wrote, “What. A . Rideeeee. Thank you to those of the wasteland- the crazies who have run amok with me up and down this country. The most fun, the most resilient, the most talented. It has been an honor and a privilege to create with you all… thank you for making me tougher than I ever thought I could be. Fire, blood, and guzzoline, Furianya.”

Mad Max Fury Road Adds Chris Hemsworth Furiosa

Anya Taylor-Joy comes onboard the sequel for the upcoming prequel that will feature the origin story of the breakout character, Furiosa, from 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. She was portrayed in the 2015 film by Academy Award winner Charlize Theron. However, since this is a prequel taking place years earlier, it will be about a younger Furiosa, director George Miller opted for a younger actress to portray the character.

In the 2015 film, Furiosa is a war captain under the wasteland tyrant Immortan Joe. She turns against him in order to help Joe’s concubines escape. She soon forms allies with Max Rockatansky to strike back and Immortan Joe in the pursuit of freedom from his tyranny.

The upcoming prequel will be once again written and directed by George Miller, who previously helmed all four previous Mad Max films. It will also star Chris Hemsworth in a leading role, along with Yahya Abdul Mateen II. It was previously rumored that Chris Hemsworth could be portraying the younger version of Immortan Joe, who was portrayed by the late Hugh Keays-Byrne in the original film. However, Hemsworth’s role has not yet been confirmed.

In the origin story of Furiosa, she is taken from the Green Place of Many Mothers as a young girl and falls into the hands of the Biker Horde, led by the Warlord Dementus. Eventually, they come to the Citadel ruled by the one and only Immortan Joe. After the two Tyrants battle for dominion, Furiosa seeks to survive the trials to try and find a way home.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait about another year and a half to finally see the movie on the big screen. However, now that it has wrapped production, hopefully, that means a teaser trailer, posters, or stills might soon emerge for the upcoming prequel.

Furiosa is currently slated for a May 24, 2024 release date. That means the film is coming out nine years after the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, the last time audiences saw Furiosa onscreen.

Do you think she’s a good fit for the role, or do you think it will be difficult for her to fill the shoes of original performer Charlize Theron?
