The Last of Us

HBO’s The Last of Us series has cast two crucial characters.

While the world is waiting for the two highly anticipated fantasy shows: House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to finally premiere, HBO is slowly making progress on another potential hit show.

Fans of the games can’t wait for the highly anticipated series adaptation of The Last of Us. The project has been filming for the majority of 2021, but besides set photos, we only have seen two stills from the project. The series finished shooting not so long ago and is currently in post-production.

We know have gotten some new castings for two crucial characters as well as some new ones.

THE LAST OF US HAS FOUND THEIR HENRY AND SAM

The Last of Us

IGN has exclusively revealed that Lamar Johnson has been cast as Henry, while Keivonn Woodard plays his on-screen younger brother Sam. Johnson is best known for The Hate U Give and Your Honor, while Woodard has until now only starred in Seeds of Hope: The Andrew Jackson Foster Story.

The Last of Us

Players of the first The Last of Us game already know who these characters are and what they’re up to, which we won’t reveal here due to spoilers. But what we can say, according to the official HBO release, it looks like Joel and Ellie will meet the two in Kansas City not in Pittsburgh like in the game.

HBO’s official release states: “Lamar Johnson as Henry and Keivonn Woodard as Sam, brothers in Kansas City hiding from a revolutionary movement seeking vengeance.”

The Last of Us

Graham Greene and Elaine Miles have also been cast as Marlon and Florence. These are two completely new characters, who were created for the series. The actors will appear in guest star roles. Greene is an Oscar Nominee for Dances with Wolves and is also known for The Green Mile and Windriver. Miles is known for the 90’s TV series Northern Exposure.

The two are set to be playing “a married couple surviving alone in the wilderness of post-apocalyptic Wyoming.”

The leading roles of Joel and Ellie will be played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. They are both known for their roles in Game of Thrones, but Pascal is also known for his starring role as The Mandalorian. Ramsey has the Amazon Prime Video film Catherine Called Birdy coming up which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Nick Offerman, Diego Luna, Murray Bartlett, Merle Dandrige, and Anna Torv will also star in prominent roles in the highly anticipated series.

Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson who play Joel and Ellie in the games are also set to cameo in undisclosed roles.

the last of us 2

The show was created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Mazin is best known as the creator of the highly acclaimed miniseries Chernobyl, while Druckmann is the Game Creator of The Last of Us games. The latter will also direct an episode.

The series will follow two survivors of a zombie apocalypse, who have to deal with their past while traveling across the country to find safety.

I am very excited for this series to finally premiere. I am a huge fan of both games and agree with everyone saying that these are some of the best games of all time. But I say this as a rather inactive gamer. The cast and crew assembled for this project are stacked. This really could be another big hit for HBO and has the right talent attached to become one of the best video game adaptations of all time.
