The Reveal

Bruno would reveal to Kamala in the final moments of the episode titled “No Normal” that there was a mutation in her DNA as a riff from X-Men: The Animated Series played in the background to further confirm the twist.

Fans are pretty split on this revelation. In the source material, Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman, a different race of genetically enhanced individuals. Many assumed The Inhumans could be on the way with the appearance of Anson Mount’s Black Bolt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, with him being on an alternate Earth and having his brains blown out, we might be waiting longer for the introduction of The Inhumans on Earth-616 than we thought. We hope we’re wrong.

Not to mention, Ms. Marvel’s abilities have now become a bit complicated with the additional explanation of The Clandestine, The Djinn and The Bangle. Many argue it would have been much simpler to just make her an Inhuman. Hopefully these many concepts all get neatly tied together in the future.

Ms. Marvel The Mutant

It’s looking like Ms. Marvel will have ties to the Mutants in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe opposed to The Inhumans. While it is unfortunate for fans of the comics to hear, it does open the door for a lot of very interesting possibilities.

Ms. Marvel looks to be how we first experience the debut of Mutants to the MCU! Learning of the existence of this group of enhanced individuals through the eyes of Kamala Khan, a superhero superfan would make for an exciting and original adaptation of the Mutants.

Will She Join The X-Men?

Will Ms. Marvel become a member of The X-Men? We doubt it, but it isn’t impossible. Not all Mutants in the Marvel Universe have strong connections to the X-Men, such as Namor who aside from a few team-ups has kept his space from the alliance of heroes. In the comics, while Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman, her connection to the group isn’t visited too frequently. She often acts on her own or teams up with The Avengers and Champions.

Which Mutant Is Next?

With Ms. Marvel breaking the seal on the introduction of Mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we could begin seeing more Mutants very soon! With Namor set to debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, we could very well learn that he too is a Mutant. It would certainly be odd for Marvel Studios to make Ms. Marvel a Mutant, but not Namor, a Mutant in the source material.
