Despicable Me first premiered in 2010 and began a franchise that has spanned five movies so far with Despicable Me 4 expected to hit theaters in 2024. Minions: The Rise Of Gru is set years before Despicable Me with a young Gru dreaming of becoming a supervillain and part of his favorite team, The Vicious 6.

Gru, with the help of his minions, notably Kevin, Stuart, and Bob, manages to gain the Vicious 6’s attention, but they quickly dismiss him once realizing his age. In an attempt to prove himself Gru steals a priceless artifact from the villainous group which makes him a target of not only the Vicious Six but other villains as well. With Gru missing Kevin, Stuart, and Bob must work together to find and save their Mini Boss.

In this episode of We’re Always Watching Kevin Fenix, one of our editors, Caitlin Tyrrell, our features manager, and Jezzer, of The Illuminerdi’s Ranger Wrap Up, discuss Minions: The Rise Of Gru, a prequel to Despicable Me. Caitlin, Jezzer, and Kevin talk about the impressive cast and their performances, the Easter eggs that tie into Despicable Me and Gru’s origin, as well as the hilarious chaos of this animated family summer movie. Kevin, Jezzer, and Caitlin talk about the ridiculousness that are the minions and their adventure in Minions: The Rise Of Gru.

The crew also reveals which of the three main minions, Kevin, Stuart, and Bob they are — unsurprisingly Kevin is in fact Kevin, but can you guess the other two? Kevin, Jezzer, and Caitlin talk about the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con equating it to their own version of the minions’ adventure in Minions: The Rise Of Gru, teasing what Caitlin can expect from her first SDCC. They also recount how they ran into Shang-Chi himself, Simu Liu, after seeing Minions: The Rise Of Gru as well as Jezzer’s experience interviewing one of his favorite actors, Steve Carell, about the new movie.
