Where is Gamora? Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters next month and fans of both the Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy films are incredibly excited.
With Taika Waititi’s second film in the saga releasing in just over a week, we are taking a look as to why Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora doesn’t appear to be in this project.

The Death and Return of Gamora
As you may remember, The Sacred Timeline Variant of Gamora was sacrificed by Thanos in order for him to obtain The Soul Stone and bring balance to the universe in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. While that version of the character appears to have been killed off for good, a Time Variant version of the character does still exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Variant Gamora from 2014 would be brought to The Sacred Timeline with Thanos and his forces to obtain The Infinity Gauntlet in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Her character would be convinced by her sister Nebula to fight against her father and help save the universe. The last we saw this Gamora, she was shown to have no attachment to any members of The Guardians of the Galaxy, with the exception of Nebula. She would leave following the end of the battle. In the epilogue of Avengers: Endgame, Star-Lord would be shown on his ship with his team, as well as Thor, where he was searching for Gamora.
The Guardians’ Role in Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder picks up where we left Thor and The Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Avengers: Endgame. While not much is known about their whereabouts, the current roster looks to include Thor, Star-Lord, Nebula, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Mantis, Kraglin and Korg. The Guardians look to only be in the beginning of the film before they go their separate ways, although they could return for the final fight and perhaps a post-credits scene.
The question remains, where is Gamora? We have a few thoughts.
Where Is Gamora?
Gamora likely went AWOL after The Battle of Earth as her entire life was just turned upside down. Her character has now prematurely stopped fighting alongside her father and learned about her entire alternate self’s life from her alternate sister. Learning she was killed by her own father likely took a toll on her. That’s a lot for anybody. As of now, she has no connection to The Guardians of the Galaxy and has no reason to continue adventuring with them.
We could learn that she went to Xandar, a location now decimated by Thanos. In 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, it was the planet where she would meet The Guardians and stop Ronan The Accuser. While her character was initially there to retrieve The Power Stone from Peter Quill, Xandar appears to be a well-known galactic hub, making it a possible location for the character to travel to. There, she could see the brutality her alternate father wrought to achieve his idea of balance.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special & Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
In Thor: Love and Thunder, we could learn more about The Guardians’ efforts to find Gamora and potentially restore her memories. With Star-Lord’s large presence in promotion materials, chances are we will hear him at least mention Gamora.
The Guardians of the Galaxy’s next appearance is set to be in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which also appears to be a project without Gamora. If the team isn’t reunited with her by the end of Thor: Love and Thunder, we doubt that it will happen during The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 looks to be their reunion as Zoe Saldaña has released photos from the set. This film will certainly answer the question as to where Gamora went after Avengers: Endgame, and what her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could hold.
