When fans think of Thor, one of the first words associated with the name is Loki.
The two brothers have been fan-favorites throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Audiences have loved watching their relationship grow and change over the years, and with Thor: Love and Thunder just around the corner, we’re wondering if The God of Mischief could have a role in the film.

Could Loki Appear in Thor: Love and Thunder?

The Death and “Return” of Loki
During the events of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, fans witnessed the death of Loki at the hands of The Mad Titan, Thanos. Since his demise, that version of the character has yet to have returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, a Time Variant version of the character would be introduced in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and have his story continued in the Disney+ Loki series.

This version of The God of Mischief currently exists in a world separated from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, currently residing at the Time Variance Authority. The last we saw the Time Variant version of the character, he was still at The Authority trying to make sense of Kang’s apparent control over the organization.
The way Marvel Studios has set up Thor: Love and Thunder appears to be a story without the brother of Thor for the most part. He hasn’t been seen in any marketing or trailers yet. If he is in the film, chances are his role is small. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t have a presence in the film.
Thor’s Tribute to Loki
In a trailer for the fourth Thor film, we saw Zeus accidentally strip Thor naked, revealing a new tattoo on his back. This tattoo reads “R.I.P. Loki” with his helmet spread across his back. Clearly Thor carries his brother with him wherever he goes and has not forgotten his sacrifice.

Loki Flashback?
We might see him appear in a flashback in the film. With Loki’s effect on Thor growing up, chances are we’ll revisit his past. We did see a scene of a young Thor running into battle. Perhaps we will also see a young version of the character. We would love to see Tom Hiddleston in a comic-accurate costume (as we saw his Classic Variant wear in Loki) alongside Chris Hemsworth.
Will Loki Bail on the TVA?
Perhaps after his troubles with the TVA he heads back to The Sacred Timeline to reunite with his brother. After knowing Kang The Conqueror has control over the Time Variance Authority, Loki might try and bail. He might find his brother who could inspire him to try and stop Kang.

Could Thor Meet Kid Loki?
While a less likely option, we could see Kid Loki appear in this film. While the Time Variant of The God of Mischief’s story appears fairly set, Kid Loki’s was left a mystery. Last we saw him was in The Void that is now open and able to be escaped. He could make his way to The Sacred Timeline and meet his brother. This Variant of the character killed Thor as a child, making the potential dynamic between a grown up Thor and a homicidal Loki very interesting and fun to watch. However, Taika Waititi did state this is not a multiverse story, so their introductions to one another might have to wait.
While the paths of Thor and Loki appear to have diverged after the latter’s death in 2018, they could soon intersect once more years later.
