After the announcement of the Wonder Man series now in the works at Marvel Studios, fans have wondered what the character’s introduction could mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This series is being executive produced by Destin Daniel Cretton, who will likely direct at least one episode of the series. We at The Illuminerdi believe that with Wonder Man’s connections to both The Vision and The Scarlet Witch in the comics that a crossover is possible.

Who is Wonder Man?

In the comics, Wonder Man is Simon Williams, a member of The West Coast Avengers, a faction of the team based out of Los Angeles, as well as a Hollywood actor. Initially he was introduced as a villain, but would eventually be reimagined as a hero. His character would go on to have a large connection to Vision, as he would be instrumental in his creation.

When Ultron was constructing Vision, he utilized Simon Williams’ brain waves to build his mind, effectively making the two see each other as brothers. Over the years, they would have plenty of stories together, and based on where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is right now, we could see a similar relationship form.

Wonder Man & The Vision

During the events of 2021’s WandaVision, we learned the true fate of Vision after the events of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. After having the Mind Stone torn from his forehead, S.W.O.R.D. took his destroyed body into custody and rebuilt him as their own sentient weapon, known as The Vision. This version of Vision didn’t have the compassion or memories of his old self and was sent to neutralize Wanda Maximoff after creating The Hex in Westview. He would go on to have his memories restored by a version of Vision created by Maximoff, but none of the emotions attached to them. He would quickly leave Westview following the partial restoration of his mind.

Fans have been curious what happened to The Vision after WandaVision. Many expected him to make an appearance in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which he was surprisingly absent from. Perhaps through The Vision’s exposure to sit-coms he instinctively headed towards Hollywood. There, he could meet Wonder Man, both a superhero and an actor who could theoretically help The Vision try to recover or rebuild his mind. This would be a nice homage to their initial relationship without having them actually share brainwaves.

We could even see the two as roommates. With Andrew Guest (Community, 30 Rock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) serving as head writer, this series is expected to be a comedy, and we could see a great “straight man and wise guy” relationship form between The Vision and Wonder Man respectively.

Wonder Man & The Scarlet Witch

In the comics, Wonder Man would have a relationship with The Scarlet Witch, and we could see a potential love triangle form in this series or in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As of now, Wanda and Vision are no longer together, as this version of Vision seemingly has no attachment to her. With Wanda’s love for film and television, she could find herself drawn to Wonder Man who acts as both a hero and an actor.

While The Scarlet Witch’s fate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was left ambiguous, we can safely assume she is alive. The famous comic book movie rule is; if you don’t see a body, they aren’t dead. That doesn’t mean that Maximoff doesn’t have a lot to answer for after killing countless sorcerers and tearing her way through the multiverse. She could relocate to another part of the country, perhaps Los Angeles, the home of her favorite sit-coms, where she could try to start her life again under the radar.

In many ways, this Wonder Man series could be a spiritual successor to WandaVision with its potential focus on Hollywood in the world of superheroes.
