The official press release for Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen’s Boss Perry White is one of the most incredible and unique press releases I’ve ever come across. One could honestly consider it to be more than a teaser, but an exciting first chapter in this one-of-a-kind DC story. Check it out below.

PERRY WHITE COMIC BOOK OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS

perry white dc comic

“Perry White’s long career in the papers deserves a big celebration, and who better to help than his favorite colleague? No, not Lois Lane. No, not Clark Kent…or that super-guy they all write about. It’s Jimmy Olsen! Yes, the same Pulitzer Prize-winning Jimmy Olsen who’s sometimes a giant turtle! Just don’t call him Jimberly—that’s a reference only Batman’s supposed to know about!

Are we burying the lede? Yes. Yes we are. See, this isn’t a Jimmy Olsen announcement. We know you love the guy, and the Jimmy Olsen Fan Club is buzzing with activity now that we’ve got your attention, but this press release isn’t an announcement of a new Jimmy Olsen comic, or a Clark Kent comic, or a Lois Lane comic, or even a Steve Lombard comic (deep cut, but worth it). This release is to announce a Perry White comic! As Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Planet, he’s worth the headlines!! We just added in hyperbole and name-checked Batman (and Superman, but mostly Batman) for the SEO.

In a new one-shot comic, Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen’s Boss Perry White #1, to publish everywhere comics are sold this June, revisit the Daily Planet and read a new 7-page Fraction/Lieber short story, then see Perry White’s career throughout the years with reprinted stories by Elliot S. Maggin and Curt Swan, Neil Kleid and Dean Haspiel, and Brian Michael Bendis and Ivan Reis!

And in case you breezed right past it (we told you ledes were buried!), this announcement doubles as the return of Matt Fraction, Steve Lieber, Nathan Fairbairn and Clayton Cowles to their Ringo and Eisner Award-winning Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen: Who Killed Jimmy Olsen? run! You begged for more from this team, and they’re back!

Are Fraction, Lieber, Fairbairn and Cowles back for good? Or for bad? Or just for the laughs? Pick up Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen’s Boss Perry White #1 in June to find out! With a new cover by Lieber and Fairbairn plus three classic reprint stories, this new one-shot 48-page comic arrives on June 21 with a cover price of $4.99.”

DC ADVERTISING THAT WOULD IMPRESS PERRY WHITE HIMSELF

Perry White isn’t one of the most iconic characters of the DC Universe, but he is a core element in the Superman mythos, and he has a long, storied history not only in comics but also in live-action. Laurence Fishburne played Perry White in the Snyderverse films, such as Man Of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. In the original Superman quadrilogy, Jackie Cooper played Perry White as a hard-ass who was determined to ensure the success of the Daily Planet at all costs. Lane Smith played Perry White in the 1990’s TV seris Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman. On the CW series Smallville, Micahel McKean portrayed the Daily Planet Editor in Chief.

That list is far from covering all of the actors who have performed as this beloved DC character, but it gives an idea of how important he is to the world of Metropolis. Interestingly enough, though his comic book history begins in Superman #7, which came out in November of 1940, the character was created for a radio serial, The Adventures Of Superman, (which came out earlier that same year) where actor Julian Noa brought White to life.

SUPERMAN’S PAL JIMMY OLSEN’S BOSS PERRY WHITE CONTINUES 80+ YEARS OF DC TRADITION

Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen’s Boss Perry White seeks to continue the almost century-long story of Perry White, with a title as fascinating as the character it describes. Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen is a long-running line of comics dating back to 1954. The iconic DC supervillain Thanos actually made his debut in Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #134. Perry White, as the boss of Jimmy Olsen, Clark Kent, and Lois Lane, often played a big role in those stories. Now, it’s a pleasant change of pace to watch White take center stage.

Furthermore, that this unique one-shot comic book will feature the talents of legends such as Brian Micahel Bendis, Clayton Cowles, and Matt Fraction (who worked on the stories which heavily inspired the Hawkeye TV series) is an extra-special treat for fans of the Daily Planet.

Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen’s Boss Perry White goes on sale digitally and wherever comic books are sold on June 21 for $4.99.
