Emma Burton, Baby Spice, and Melanie “Mel B” Brown, Scary Spice, are two members of the world-renown British pop group, the Spice Girls. In the late 1990s, these women dominated the music world with their infectious dance songs and full embrace of all facets of “Girl Power.” Their first single was released in the summer of 1996 in Britain, where they dominated the summer there and in about 30 other countries. They debuted in the United States in 1997 and quickly dominated the Billboard charts as well as released Girl Power! which was a coffee table book of photographs, lyrics, and biographic information of the members of the group.

Later that year the Spice Girls released their second album Spiceworld along with their movie Spice World: The Movie. The film was not critically adored, but fans of the Spice Girls flocked to the theaters making it a moderate success. However, in 1998 the success began to fade and the girls became much more focused on their individual careers. Ginger left the group in the middle of their Spiceworld tour and Posh was becoming a tabloid staple after becoming engaged and married to David Beckham. In 2001 the group officially disbanded, but have reunited in 2007, at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, and in 2019, minus Posh,

Though they’re not a fully-fledged group anymore. The number of reunions and collaborations leads most to believe they are on good terms. And there are large populations of people who still adore them. Netflix is likely banking that fans of The Circle have a decent amount of crossover with the Spice Girls’ fandom. If anything, The Circle fans who do not know of the Spice Girls are in for a treat, as the chemistry of the Spice Girls in any combination is a hot commodity. Their stardom was a huge precursor to the reality show culture we know today, and they will likely bring an entirely new level of depth to the way The Circle is played.
