Robin Saves This Movie From Being One Of The Worst
Chris O’Donnell’s Robin is without a doubt the best part of Batman Forever, which is why it is so disappointing that his character felt like another one of the film’s many subplots.
I loved the idea of Two-Face killing his family and having Dick seek revenge. It was a great way to have Bruce and Alfred step into the father roles for Dick and show him that revenge isn’t the way to go.

However, the film’s constant need to find a new love interest for Bruce and random inclusion of The Riddler really distract from this incredibly promising plot point. I honestly would have loved to have seen a solo Robin movie based on the character’s portrayal in this film as it seems like they were heading in the right direction but tried to do too much with the film.
Final Thoughts on Batman Forever
Overall, Batman Forever is an absolute mess. The film can’t decide whether it wants to be about the love story between Bruce Wayne and Chase Meridian, the villains’ ridiculous schemes, or Dick Grayson’s tragic backstory.
This film features the worst love interest so far with Dr. Meridian. While Nicole Kidman does a good job portraying the role her dialogue can be absolutely ridiculous at times and serves little to nothing to the overall plot.
Michael Gough’s Alfred is at his best in this film. I loved seeing his relationship with Dick develop throughout the film. It made him feel like an integral part of the story which is something his character was lacking in the previous two films. I also think that Gough and Kilmer were able to vibe off of each other well throughout the film, which is nice to see.
Batman Forever could have been great but tried to do too much which ended up making it a jumbled-up mess. Although that doesn’t make it the worst as next time we are covering Batman & Robin which has been regarded by many as one of the worst comic-book movies of all time.
Batman Forever stars Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey Dent / Two-Face, Jim Carrey as Edward Nygma / The Riddler, Nicole Kidman as Dr. Chase Meridian, Chris O’Donnell as Dick Grayson / Robin, Michael Gough as Alfred Pennyworth, and Pat Hingle as James Gordon.
