The release of The Batman is a little over a month away and fans could not be more excited for the highly anticipated film. The director of the film, Matt Reeves, has recently shared a 3-minute clip of the film, giving fans their first non-trailer look at the film.

The clip shows some of the characters at a funeral for Gotham City Mayor Don Mitchell Jr (Rupert Penry-Jones). Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) is in attendance and takes notice of the mayor’s young son, likely seeing the similarities between their family tragedies.

Commissioner Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) informs some other officers that district attorney Gil Colson (Peter Sarsgaard) has gone missing. The church was later attacked by a person in a vehicle, seemingly targeting the Mayor’s son. Bruce Wayne saves the boy while the police order the person to step out of the car. Out comes Gil Colson who was taken hostage by Edward Nashton / the Riddler (Paul Dano).

Colson has his mouth duct-taped shut and a bomb around his neck. Tapped on his chest is a message reading, “To The Batman”. The clip then ends abruptly with Colson likely being killed immediately after.

The Riddler Proves That He Will Be A Force To Be Reckoned With In New The Batman Clip

If there is one thing that this clip proves it is that this version of The Riddler will be one of Batman’s greatest foes in any of the theatrical adaptations of the character.

This film will more than likely go down as the darkest Batman movie yet as the clip shows the most ominous view on Gotham we have ever seen. Just through the cinematography and the tone of the scene you can tell that this will be a much more grounded comic-book movie compared to the films we have seen in recent years.

The Batman was initially revealed all the way back in 2014 and was going to star Ben Affleck in the role instead of Pattinson. Affleck was also set to write, produce, and direct. Jeremy Irons and Joe Manganiello were also expected to reprise their roles as Alfred Pennyworth and Deathstroke respectively. Unfortunately, Affleck had to drop out of the project and DC decided to go in a completely new direction with Matt Reeves now directing the film with a completely new direction and story.

It will be interesting to fully see where Matt Reeves will be taking these famous characters. It seems he is taking a very different approach with The Batman, hopefully, it pays off as fans seem to like what they are seeing so far.
