The Office: Somehow We Manage Is Somehow Just Okay

The Office: Somehow We Manage is very faithful to the source material; however, is incredibly unlikely to bring in new fans with its familiar gameplay and intrusive microtransactions.

The Office is without a doubt one of the greatest sitcoms of our time and will likely go down as one of the best sitcoms of the 21st century. Whether it be Michael Scott with his politically incorrect statements or Stanley Hudson with his crossword puzzles, The Office had an amazing cast of characters that fans fell in love with over the show’s nine years on the air as well as its new life on streaming services such as Netflix and Peacock.

These characters have amassed an incredible legacy and now they will be seen in a new light as they are featured in a new mobile game, The Office: Somehow We Manage from East Side Games. The game features storylines from the show and allows you to get leads for the famous characters after their boss, Michael Scott, spent all of the budget on made-up currency dubbed “Scott Coins.”

The Office: Somehow We Manage

There is somewhat of a story with the game as there are “episodes” where the player can revisit some of the show’s greatest moments. You will unlock new characters and collectibles as you progress through the story.

The Office: Somehow We Manage is one of those idle games where you can just have it run in the background while the characters you have unlocked can continue making money for you while you are doing other things.

That being said that means there are quite a few microtransactions within the game, which is to be expected for a mobile game today. However, with this game, it is very easy to hit a roadblock very quickly once you get fairly far into the game. This makes it almost impossible to progress without either paying up or waiting hours sometimes even days to get the money you need to progress.

Should You Download The Office: Somehow We Manage?

So, is The Office: Somehow We Manage worth your download? Well, that really depends. If you are an Office super fan like me this game can be a decently fun distraction. If you have never seen The Office I find it hard to suggest this game considering there are potentially hundreds of other games like it in the AppStore you could choose to download.

Even for Office super fans, there are some issues. The game is extremely faithful to the source material; however, oftentimes the episode “cutscenes” can be incredibly intrusive and cause the game to come to a screeching halt. Considering this game is marketed to superfans, we don’t need to see the story beats word for word, we’ve already seen it.

As mentioned before, if you are not a fan of microtransactions you should probably stay away from this game and most other mobile games for that matter. When the game’s cutscenes aren’t cutting in you will often find yourself blocked by the game’s many in-game currencies that you will need to progress through the game. If you don’t have enough you will have to either wait or pay up. There are ways to gain said currency through ads; however, it gives the player barely anything to work with, so you might as well just wait or download a different game.

Overall, The Office: Somehow We Manage is very faithful to the source material; however, is incredibly unlikely to bring in new fans with its familiar gameplay and intrusive microtransactions that are prominent throughout most mobile games.

All episodes of The Office are available to stream on Peacock. The series stars Steve Carrell as Michael Scott, Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute, John Krasinski as Jim Halpert, Jenna Fischer as Pam Beesly, B.J. Novak as Ryan Howard, with Ed Helms as Andy Bernard, as well as almost 20 other main cast members.
