Black Adam: Leaked Action Figure Listing May Reveal Supervillain DCEU Debut

Black Adam actor Marwan Kenzari’s role in the upcoming DCEU film may have been confirmed by a leaked McFarlane Toys listing.

Black Adam stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the titular anti-hero. Pierce Brosnan, Quintessa Swindell, Noah Centineo and Aldis Hodge will play the Justice Society heroes Doctor Fate, Cyclone, Atom Smasher and Hawkman respectively. Sarah Shahi will play Adrianna Tomaz, who becomes the superhero Isis and the wife of Adam in the source material.

In October of 2020, The Illuminerdi exclusively reported that Warner Brothers was looking to cast Marwan Kenzari as the antagonist of Black Adam, most likely the supervillain known as Sabbac. Sabbac is a villain with powers similar to Shazamand Adam, who turn into magical, immensely powerful superhumans when they shout “Shazam!”.

BLACK ADAM: MCFARLANE TOYS LEAK SUGGESTS SABBAC WILL BE THE VILLAIN

Unlike those two, whose heroes come from gods, Sabbac’s powers come from the demons Satan, Aym, Belial, Beelzebub, Asmodeus and Crateis (S.A.B.B.A.C). In DC Comics, Ishmael Gregor performs an evil spell involving the murder of Timothy Karnes, the original Sabbac. This transferred the evil powers over to Ishmael, who went on to battle Shazam Jr. and The Outsiders.

The original Illuminerdi report stated that WB was looking to cast “Ishmael”, the descendant of a pharaoh who was murdered. Ishmael’s goal was to harness the power of the “Crown of Sabbac”. The Crown, which does not exist in DC Comics, was first seen in the electrifying teaser trailer. It floated mysteriously in the tomb where Black Adam was imprisoned, and the true powers of the Crown are currently unknown.

MARWAN KENZARI REPORTEDLY SET TO PLAY SABBAC

Aladdin Marwan Kenzari Black Adam

A leaked listing for upcoming McFarlane Toys action figures for Black Adam listed several action figures in development. Black Adam, Atom Smasher, Dr. Fate, Cyclone, Hawkman, and most importantly, Sabbac were all listed. Additionally, Black Adam had two designs, “ancient” and “hero”, while Atom Smasher had both a normal size figure and a larger “megafig” listed. Sabbac was listed only as a “megafig”.

If this leak turns out to be true, Sabbac may just be the villain of Black Adam. Marwan Kenzari impressed audiences around the world as Jafar in the live-action remake of Aladdin, so we know he can play the bad guy with style. The DCEU Sabbac/Ishmael looks to be a fairly original character inspired by the Sabbac of DC Comics, which could work to the advantage of Black Adam. There isn’t a lot to the original character, which means that a reinvention should result in a much more compelling, intense, and hopefully frightening villain for Black Adam and The Justice Society to fight.

WILL ATOM SMASHER FIGHT A SUPER-SIZED SABBAC?

The fact that Sabbac is listed as a megafig leads me to believe that the DC supervillain will either be quite large when powered up, or he will have a large form. Think the third act of every Power Rangers episode, a giant Sabbac who could go toe-to-toe with the size-shifting Justice Society hero Atom Smasher. A fight of such colossal proportions would add a very interesting visual dynamic to the action in Black Adam, and it could give DC a leg-up on Marvel’s shapeshifting stories with Ant-Man.

Only time will tell if this leak is reliable, but as of now, it looks quite likely that Sabbac will be the villain in Black Adam. Stay tuned to The Illuminerdi for updates on the Black Adam/Sabbac story as it develops, and remember, We Are Always Watching.
