Andrew Garfield recently praised the importance of brotherhood.

Let’s just chart a few extremely notable moments along the history of Spider-Man: No Way Home. In September 2019, Spider-Man 3 was announced to be in the works after Disney and Sony had reached an agreement. In November 2020, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and Charlie Cox were all reported to have reprised their roles as respective Spider-Men and Daredevil in the film.

In February 2021, the title was revealed to be “No Way Home” and the first trailer was released for the film in August 2021, after which the world exploded. In November 2021, the second trailer released for the film, and the internet buzzed with possibility. And In December 2021, the film finally released. It’s safe to say that MCU fans have been talking of almost nothing else since.

For the time being, Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield are arguably the 3 most popular celebrities on the planet – mostly due to their extremely-hyped up roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Each actor has done their fair share to earn a spot on the most famous list, with Maguire doing his well-loved trilogy, Holland becoming the MCU’s Spider-Man, and Garfield just being the extraordinary actor he is. However, this might be a hot take, but it’s doubtful that any of them (with the exception of Holland) would be on the most famous list if No Way Home had never existed. That goes to show just how powerful Marvel Studios films can be.

Andrew Garfield Explains The Brotherhood Relationship Among The 3 Spider-Men

In a recent interview with Variety, Andrew Garfield spoke about his experiences filming Spider-Man: No Way Home, and how much he enjoyed spending time with Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. He also talks about the on-screen brotherhood between the 3. Full quote:

We talked a lot about mentorship. We talked a lot about brotherhood and about what it is to be the older brother, younger brother and the middle brother. There’s also a thing of seeing someone you love walking down a path that you’ve already walked down, and you know it doesn’t lead the place where you ultimately meant to go.

That character is isolated in his emotional experience and physical experience. But what happens when that aloneness gets blasted open, and you come to realize that you’ve never been alone and there are other brothers going through the exact same thing? That’s a big spiritual journey to go on, man. And then we just milked out all the fun that we could possibly have.

Andrew Garfield when asked about the brotherhood that the 3 Spider-Men shared on-screen

Spider-Man: No Way Home just keeps on breaking records. Now, it’s broken another. It’s the first film to feature 3 iterations of the same characters that have all been portrayed before with at least 2 films each. Long sentence, but it works. From Garfield’s quote, though, it’s safe to assume that the “younger brother” in the film was Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, as he’s in high school, has barely any knowledge of the world, and is quite inexperienced. The “middle brother” is Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker, as he is more experienced than Holland’s Peter, and is likely in his 30s. The “older brother” is the only one left: Tobey Maguire.

Maguire’s Peter Parker now seems to be in his 40s, surpassing both of the other Peters, and has also figured out how to balance a social life with a superhero life, with both Holland and Garfield haven’t figured out how to do. Garfield leans too much to the Spider-Man side of Peter, while Tom is trying to do both, and failing spectacularly. Both Peters could take a page from Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man’s book. On a side note, all these Peters are confusing. Next time, I’m going with Peter 1 (Tom Holland), Peter 2 (Tobey Maguire), and Peter 3 (Andrew Garfield).
