It’s being reported that Seth Rollins was supposed to win the WWE title at Day 1.

While many fans expected Big E to retain his title at the most recent Premium Live Event, Roman Reigns tested positive for COVID which would leave his intended opponent, Brock Lesner, without a title match. Ultimately, he was added to the already too congested Fatal 4-way match for the Heavyweight World title, making it a Fatal 5 Way main event.

Lesner would win over Rollins, former champion Big E, Bobby Lashley and Kevin Owens. WWE on Fox twitter account posted a graphic (which was subsequently deleted moments after it was posted) indicating that Big E would retain his title in the Fatal 4-Way.

THE WAY IT DIDN’T GO DOWN AT WWE DAY 1

A new report from Dave Meltzer at Sports Illustrated stated that the original scripted plan for Day 1 was for Big E to drop the title to Rollins, who had tested positive for COVID-19 the week before Day 1, but due to the CDC for new reduced Covid Quarantine time mandates was cleared in time for the pay-per-view.

We noted before how a WWE On FOX deleted graphic indicated that Big E was scheduled to retain the WWE Title at Day 1 before Lesnar was added to the match. It’s possible that they made the decision to nix the Rollins title win when he tested positive for COVID-19, as a precautionary measure, or that the deleted WWE On FOX Twitter account was insignificant in regards to the match result.

Lesner will face #1 contender Bobby Lasley at this year’s Royal Rumble premium live event on January 29th. It’s believed that Reigns vs. Lesnar is still the plan for WrestleMania 38. There is no word on what WWE had planned for Rollins as WWE Champion, or exactly why the original scripted plan was changed.

It would seem that as for now, he may be moved down to a mid-card feud with Kevin Owens due to the cliché question of “can they coexist” is being thrown around as their fragile alliance that was formed for the fatal 5-way match is no longer needed.
