Attack on Titan first began airing in 2013 and with its final season set to air early next year in 2022, the excitement for the franchise is at an all-time high. The manga ended earlier this year, however, the adventures of Eren and the rest of the main characters are not over yet in the anime. The show has been regarded as the Game Of Thrones of Anime mixed with elements from Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings. This is likely due to the setting of Attack On Titan having obvious European-inspired influences most notably 1940s Germany and elements of World War 2.

About and Recap of Attack on Titan ***Spoiler Alert***

Attack on Titan

The series focuses on a protagonist named Eren Yaeger alongside his best friends Armin Arlert and Mikasa Ackerman. The three friends live in a supposed post-apocalyptic world where giant humanoid cannibals called Titans wreck havoc. After his beloved mother gets eaten and his town becomes ruined by invading Titans, Eren vows revenge on these humanoid monsters. So he, Mikasa, and Armin joined the Survey Corps, a prestigious Military Fraction whose main goal is to liberate the world from Titans.

The series takes a massive turn when it is revealed Eren himself has the power to become a Titan. Ironically, it is later revealed that the Titans are actually humans, with a majority of them being cursed into becoming mindless man-eating zombified giants. Through the course of the series, Eren discovers and confronts internal conflicts, corrupted leaders, and political forces that shaped the world.

Another big turn in the series occurs when it is discovered the human population is not on the brink of extinction, but rather Eren’s homeland, Paradis, is an isolated continent hidden from other countries. Which is the main reason there are three walls separating each district of the Kingdom of Paradis Island. It is also revealed that Paradis, the Titans, the corruption and propaganda are because of what the Marleyans have done. After the trials, revelations, tragedies, and reveals of the first three seasons, Eren and the island of Paradis wage war against Marley.

Eren’s Development from Hero to Villain

Throughout the first part of Season 4, we see Eren and some members of the Survey Corps attack Marley and wage war on the enemy country. As the season progresses, Eren slowly becomes more and more corrupted until finally becoming the series main antagonist. Instead of eliminating all of the Titans around the world, Eren now wants to destroy anyone who opposes or is against, Paradis. Eren plans to go as far as Global Genocide to achieve his twisted plan. This dark turn has made Eren the exact thing he sought to destroy, humanity’s biggest threat.

When Eren killed many innocent Marleyans in the first part of Season 4, the incident caused his own friends or comrades to realize his dark descent. Eren’s transformation into a global terrorist caused his friends and even his former enemies to try and stop him before he eliminates almost half of humanity.
