In celebration of the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film, Bandai Tamashii Nations is releasing 6 new S.H. Figuarts based on the characters and design from the movie.

Bandai Tamashii Nations, one of the world’s most illustrious toy brands, is adding 6 new figures to their Dragon Ball S.H. Figuarts line. These premium action figures are based on the characters and designs from the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film set to release in Japan in April 2022. From the film, Gohan, Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 will be receiving S.H. Figuarts in their likeness.

These Figuarts look incredible and boast the newest in S.H. Figuarts joint technology as well what are arguably the cleanest designs of all Figuarts in the Dragon Ball line. With that said though, only three of these figures really feel new, Gohan, Gamma 1, and Gamma 2. Gohan is in his new fighting gear which looks to be an updated look of his Teen Gohan outfit, but now as an adult in his Ultimate form. While Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 are two entirely new characters.

New Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero S.H. Figuarts

  • Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero S.H. Figuarts Gohan
  • Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero S.H. Figuarts Piccolo
  • Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero S.H. Figuarts Vegeta
  • Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero S.H. Figuarts Goku

As evident by the images above, the figures look incredible. However, Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo already have multiple releases with very similar designs. While the colorings are much cleaner and bolder on these new figures, the only major reason to add them to your collection is that they come with multiple facial expressions. Otherwise, it is pretty much the same as previous releases without transformations and Piccolo without his cape. For toy photographers, more faces open up countless new ways to shoot your pics. For NIB (New in Box) collectors, unless the boxes are incredibly unique, it doesn’t seem to add much to the collection

However, for completionists and those who have been in the line for a while, the updated sculps and coloring are a noticeable upgrade, and the pricepoint looks to rival that of the figures released for Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and won’t break the bank. It is a great way for new collectors to get updated versions of now hard to get figures, and it also doesn’t seem like an unreasonable price to pay for an update. Below are additional shots and more details about the hero Figuarts being released directly from Tamashii Nations.

Noticeably missing from the site is any information regarding Gamma 1 & Gamma 2. The only available images were from Tamashii Nations’ Instagram. The figures are still pending licensor approval. But they were on display and they did provide some pictures, which was more than enough to get fans excited. After their showcasing in the trailer, fans are dire to learn more about the Gammas and get their hands on these figures.

Unfortunately, like the film, we do not have any information on an expected release date for the figures. Gohan, Goku, Piccolo and Vegeta are currently available to pre-order on Japanese retail sites with Piccolo set to release in April, Vegeta in May, Goku in June and Gohan in July of 2022. Hopefully, this means fans in Western countries can expect to be able to get these figures by the end of 2022, and all at once instead of a staggered release. Chances are, their availability will be tied to the film’s release in their respective countries.

Considering Dragon Ball Super: Broly was released in the US and Canada a month after it was released in Japan, fans in North America can likely expect a release of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film to likely coincide with San Diego Comic-Con or Anime Expo. The ability to acquire the figures from Bluefin or Premium Bandai will likely revolve around that same time period. It’s all speculation as supply lines have greatly delayed current releases of SH Figuarts in North America, but it has not prevented pre-orders, so it is really hard to tell. We’ll provide any updates as they come in.

***Update 12/21: The figures are now available for preorder in the US on sites like BigBadToyStore and EntertainmentEarth.

What do you think of the new Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero S.H. Figuarts? Is it worth getting Piccolo, Goku and Vegeta when they are only slightly updated sculpts? Why is there no Pan figure?
