The days are counting down toward next month’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the trailers, tv spots, and rumors continue to roll in faster than a rapid-fire web thwip. The newest rumor states that Sony is currently developing a live-action Miles Morales movie as one of its many Spiderverse-related projects.
In a recent report via his Patreon, industry insider Daniel Richtman stated that Sony Pictures is currently working on a live-action movie surrounding the African American/Puerto-Rican Spider-Man character. While its not currently known what stage this project is in, the idea is a no-brainer.
Miles Morales: Miles Ahead.
Miles Morales has been a fan-favorite character for over a decade now, and has recently experienced an absolute flood of popularity during recent years. Between the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, its upcoming sequel, and the incredible Playstation video game franchise, Sony has been making bank on the character lately, and it was only a matter of time before they announced a live-action film.
With Far From Home diving into the multiverse and introducing past iterations of the Spider-Man character played by Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield, fans are hoping for an introduction to Miles Morales as well. Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first film of Sony/Marvel’s collaboration, featured a nod to the character by introducing the audience to his uncle Aaron Davis, played by actor Donald Glover. Fans saw this as a sure sign that the character would eventually be introduced, but as-of-yet, we haven’t heard any other mentions or allusions to him. It’s unsure if he will be in next month’s movie, but I certainly would not be surprised.
Though the film is set to feature around Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and his variants, I would be on the lookout for setups and references to Miles Morales, as well as Spider-Gwen and other Sony characters for that matter. Sony has announced a slew of new projects (Kraven the Hunter, Olivia Wilde’s female-focused movie, etc.), and I doubt they would miss the opportunity to hype fans up for everything else they have up their sleeve. Not only would a Miles Morales led movie be guaranteed to make a profit, but it would cross-promote Sony’s animated films and video game franchises to the point where they could probably start printing their own money.
Stay tuned as we keep our ear to the ground, and we will continue to keep you posted as more rumors continue to fly in. Do you think Miles Morales will show up in Far From Home? Who would you cast in the role? Let us know in the comments below or over on Twitter!
