Power Rangers in Space Star Roger Velasco Shares His Experience Working With Former Black Ranger Johnny Yong Bosch

Power Rangers in Space star, Roger Velasco, talks about working with Johnny Yong Bosch on the show.

I had the special opportunity and honor in interviewing the 2nd Green Turbo and Black Space Ranger himself, Roger Velasco. I interviewed Roger on The Illuminerdi’s sister page The Morphin Network. We interviewed Velasco at a local Comic Book Store called Emerald Knights and Comic and Games Store located in Burbank, California.

In Power Rangers in Space, there was a special cross-over episode that involved Roger Velasco and Legendary Power Ranger / current Anime voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch called ‘Always A Chance’. During the episode, Velasco’s character Carlos is hit with huge doubt and loss his confidence in being a Power Ranger. It was due to his character accidentally causing the Pink Space Ranger to get hurt while fighting a monster.

In that episode we see Bosch’s Adam Park visit Carlos. Then during the episode, we see Adam train Carlos in becoming a better Ranger and boosting his confidence. Additionally, we see Adam once again morph into the Black Mighty Morphin Ranger for a short time. The episode is deemed one of the most iconic and beloved episodes from fans in the franchise.

During the interview, we asked Velasco on what was his experience in filming ‘Always A Chance’:

MORPHIN NETWORK: Always wanted to ask you this, so I known in Power Rangers In Space you teamed up with Johnny Young Bosch, Legendary Black Ranger. What was it like working with him in that special episode that you had to motivate yourself.

ROGER VELASCO: Always A Chance, [is] one of my favorite episodes. Actually is one of the world’s favorite episodes, I asked all the Power Rangers fans what’s your favorite episode every time a lot of times, they say that. Back to your question it was amazing. It was great, you know Adam, Johnny Bosch was a legend before I came on the show. So there were some big shoes to fill. I always say there’s some big shoes to fill, it was a little nerve-wrecking.

But guess what it’s fine, because you use that energy in your favor, and it was great to shoot that episode. That’s Legendary and Iconic nowadays, I had no idea that what what’s going to happen. I just did my best work and it was great working with him. It was awesome I mean you can see it on the screen right? Yeah it was awesome working together. It’s just incredible how a writer writes that stuff down, and then we just bring it to life and that’s what came out of it awesome. Johnny, you’re the man bro.

Roger Velasco’s Carlos is considered one of the most popular and iconic Power Rangers of all time. The character was the successor to Adam Park’s Green Turbo Ranger and later became the Black Space Ranger. The character also made a return appearance in a two-part crossover with the Galaxy Rangers.
