With only three episodes left of What If…? this seems like the perfect time to bring Party Thor to Marvel fans. Marvel released the poster for the newest episode of What If…? which teases a new version of the God of Thunder.
The previous three episodes of What If…? have been pretty heavy with Doctor Strange Supreme decimating his entire universe, Marvel Zombies taking out most of the surviving heroes in theirs, and Kilmonger killing T’Challa, Tony Stark, and James “Rhodey” Rhodes in another. Hopefully, Party Thor is a bit lighter, perhaps the episode that editor Graham Fisher described as “zany” in our exclusive interview.
Party Thor seems like the perfect fit for an episode that has been described as “zany” especially given our exclusive about this What If…? episode. We exclusively revealed that the Party Thor episode of What If…? would feature a version of Thor who will visit Midgard in order to throw an intergalactic party that could have world-ending consequences. It seems like the What If…? scenario could be centered on a version of Thor who never learned humility likely having never been banished to Earth by his father, Odin.
NEW PARTY THOR POSTER FOR EPISODE 7 OF WHAT IF…?
The poster doesn’t give any new details away but does give fans a closer look at Party Thor’s armor and animation design. This version of Thor looks to be in possession of his original hammer, Mjolnir. Party Thor looks similar to the Thor of the MCU films although in the poster Party Thor’s armor looks to be navy blue or dark purple with gold accents instead of silver armor. His cape also features a collar that isn’t present in the MCU films Thor.
Thor was featured in the midseason What If…? trailer with Doctor Strange Supreme saying, “Zombies! Great idea.” This seems to indicate that these characters will not only be interacting at some point in the final three episodes of the season but some of the storylines that have ended with cliffhangers will be continued and possibly concluded in the final three episodes of the season as well.
The midseason and official trailer, released in July, featured a shot of what looks to be the Guardians of the Multiverse which includes Black Widow, Gamora wearing what looks like Thanos’ armor, Captain Carter, Killmonger Black Panther, Star-Lord T’Challa, and Party Thor. Party Thor, Gamora, and Black Widow are the three members of this team that have yet to be introduced during the season which seems to hint at what fans can expect in the final episodes of the first season of What If…?
The Watcher is featured in the background of the poster to keep a watchful eye on the God of Thunder. The Watcher has slowly become a more prominent character in What If…? both visually and in episode four directly interacting with Doctor Strange Supreme. He began as only an outline in the background in early episodes, but after his interaction with Strange, he has become even more prominent in the background of episodes five and six. The Watcher is no longer an outline instead having depth and color although he has yet to become involved with the events he is seeing.
This episode could be the perfect opportunity to bring The Watcher out of the background of What If…? and directly into the action of the episode. An intergalactic party with world-ending possibilities could be a fun way to bring The Watcher directly into the story, he could potentially fit in with the aliens who are likely to show up at Thor’s party. He could also be getting closer to crossing the line from observer to a participant with the possibility of another world ending after Strange’s and the Zombie-infested universe.
However the episode plays out, Party Thor is sure to be another wild ride for What If…? fans. Each episode has offered a different genre and exciting stories with shocking twists and turns. And with only three episodes left of the first season of What If…? it will be enthralling to see what threat brings the characters together and how the stories culminate. It seems like the Zombies will return in some capacity based on what Thor says in the midseason trailer and footage in the trailer also points to follow up on the previous episode cliffhanger of Shuri and Pepper teaming up against Killmonger.
