Disneyland's iconic Splash Mountain will soon become a sequel to The Princess and the Frog.

It looks the full revamp of Disneyland’s iconic Splash Mountain ride is in full underway.

Fan reaction has been mixed ever since news came of said revamp due to ride’s original design based on the controversial 1946 film Song of the South. Some applauded the decision while others highly against it, but nonetheless the ride will be renovated into a new theme based on Disney’s hit 2009 animated film Princess And The Frog.

The new Splash Mountain is reported to continue the story of the original film, serving as a spiritual sequel to the hit animated film. Walt Disney’s Parks Division even recently revealed new concept art and even some story details of the upcoming redesigned ride.

Splash Mountain Follows Tiana’s Legacy

Fans should expect the ride to have some continuation nods of the original fist film. Those nods include guests joining Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, and the fan favorite trumpet playing alligator Louis planning a Mardi Gras Celebration.

This will be the very first expansion for The Princess and The Frog franchise. The only time Princess and The Frog ever had it’s presence felt in a Disney Park was when cast members dressed as Princess Tiana would greet guests and take pictures. But now with this Splash Mountain redesign coming soon, the franchise will finally have it’s first themed ride.

Disney also revealed that there would be many more additional features to the ride. One of them including original songs inspired by the original film’s soundtrack. The ride will also have a New Orleans style feel and try to blend it with that city’s culture. It’s reported that Disney wants the ride to “look and feel, from sounds to visuals” like the New Orleans shown in the original animated film.

It’s also reported that Disney hired artist Sharika Mahdi into commissioning some paint or art designs to bring conceptualization to Splash Mountain 2.0. With all of this new on the The Princess and The Frog ride being reported, it’s safe to say fans of the original 2009 animated film should be pleased.

However, this will not only be franchise expansion for The Princess and the Frog. Its been reported that Princess Tiana will be getting her very own TV animated series on Disney+. Now not much is known about this new project besides the fact that it’ll be a musical comedy series. New reports show and also indicate that the series will serve as a sequel to the original film.

Hopefully once with the new revamp ride and with the upcoming Disney Plus series coming out, fans will be able to return to the wonderful world of Princess and The Frog.
