It seems like HBO is trying to keep the momentum going with their movie releases, as screenwriter, director and producer Misha Green will write the script for the upcoming Birds of Prey spin-off film, Black Canary.
The confirmation comes from The Hollywood Reporter and Collider, after the original report by Cinelinx. The project, at first, was supposed to be a series. However, it has morphed into an HBO Max film.
Misha Green and Smollett will be able to reunite as the projects flaps its wings off of the ground. The duo worked together in 2016 on the historical drama series Underground, most recently partnered for HBO’s Lovecraft Country.
MISHA GREEN AND JURNEE SMOLLETT REUNITE
The Black Canary is a character that both Misha Green and Smollett know well. Green used to pick the character in Injustice 2 to play against Smollett, using the “Canary Cry” to beat the actress. Since then, the two voiced their wish on tackling on a Black Canary film. Now they will get their wish. No information is out on the film just yet, but Jurnee is definitely excited about it.
Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to introduce the Green Arrow (*cough* Charlie Hunnam *cough*) to the DCEU. What are your expectations about this movie? Do you want a sequel to the Birds of Prey film, or would you rather it be a standalone movie exploring the origins of the character?
