Blue Beetle is a DC property that’s about to get a whole lot more popular and it’s because everyone’s fancast came true. Xolo Maridueña, Miguel Diaz on Cobra Kai, is going to be Blue Beetle.
The fan-casting started when Maridueña himself advocated for the Blue Beetle role in Febuary 2021. Then, in June, OTN reported this back on their site and all was dormant until TheWrap confirmed the earlier report and we now know Xolo Maridueña will indeed be playing Jamie Reyes in 2022’s Blue Beetle. The film will NOT be theatrical but rather a HBO Max film, with Maridueña likely to cross over at some point to the theatrical films.
Xolo Maridueña Is Jamie Reyes The Blue Beetle
For those not in the loop, Blue Beetle is a B-list hero. The Jamie Reyes incarnation of the character shares a lot of similarities with the early 2000s show, Ben 10. An alien tech gets permanently stuck to his him, but unlike Ben 10, he can unleash a powerful super-suit at anytime and make weapons or gadgets with nanotech. He is best known for his appearances in the shows Smallville and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
Personally, I’m excited. Maridueña is probably the most hyped up superhero fan-casting next to John Krasinski as Reed Richards and Maridueña has the acting chops to pull off this role. Blue Beetle is an under-appreciated hero and it would be fitting for him to become a household name
Blue Beetle, directed by Angel Manuel Soto and starring Xolo Maridueña is slated start filming in September 2021 for a unspecified 2022-2023 release date. What do you think of the Xolo Maridueña casting? Let us know in the comment section below or over on our social media!
