Paramount Pictures’ upcoming sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has just added Criminal Minds star Shemar Moore to the cast.
Moore revealed his involvement on his Instagram saying how excited is to be part of the film and sharing a photo alongside fellow cast members James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Natasha Rothwell. The actor did not mention any information on who he will be playing on screen but it is likely he will be voicing an animated character rather than a live-action role.
Shemar Moore Joins Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Shemar Moore is well-known for his roles as a television police officer where he starred as Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds before making the jump to the lead on CBS’ S.W.A.T. The actor is no stranger to providing his voice in animation as he has lend his voice as DC’s Cyborg in several animated films. We reported last year that Jason Momoa had been offered the voice role of Knuckles the Echidna, however it’s still unclear if he had interest in the part.
Another rumor circling the web is the fact that Jim Carrey will be returning as Sonic’s rival Doctor Robotnik as well. The plot synopsis was leaked last month which has Sonic dealing with the return of Dr. Robotnik returning and teams with his new partner Knuckles, in search of an emerald that has the power to build or destroy civilizations. Sonic also teams up with his sidekick, Tails, and embark on an epic journey to find the emerald before it falls in the wrong hands.
Returning to the project will be director Jeff Fowler who announced back in May that production on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was finished. The Sonic movie will feature the film’s original cast for the sequel which includes Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, and Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski.
