Everyone’s favorite adventuring archeologist is coming back for a new exciting adventure with the long awaited and highly anticipated Indiana Jones 5. Indiana Jones 5 has faced numerous delays in the last few years as well as a shocking change in directors last year when Steven Spielberg stepped down and James Mangold took the reins. Spielberg may not be directing this latest installment in the Indiana Jones franchise, but he is still involved as a producer.

But as casting news has come rolling in fans have been ecstatic with the clear progress being made. Joining Harrison Ford, who is reprising his role as Indiana Jones, is Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson.

Plot and character details have still been kept tightly under wraps, until now. The Illuminerdi can exclusively reveal the roles of Mads Mikkelsen and Shaunette Renée Wilson. And on top of that, when the next installment of the Indiana Jones franchise will take place.

Shaunette Renee Wilson will be playing Mads Mikkelsen’s villain’s CIA handler responsible for “babysitting” the Nazi scientist turned NASA recruit. There will also be a female villain, “an evil and brutal killer” who will work with Mads Mikkelsen’s character. According to our sources, Scarlett Johansson actually passed on this role previously.

Indiana Jones 5: New Details On Mads Mikkelsen's Villain Character And Film's Connection To Outer Space: Exclusive - The Illuminerdi

Mads Mikkelsen’s character’s description not only reveals that he will be the villain of Indiana Jones 5, but when the franchise’s next installment will be taking place.

The next Indiana Jones adventure would logically be set during the 1960s space race. NASA’s Apollo 11 landed on the moon in 1969, so it wouldn’t be a shock for the film to be set later in the 1960s, especially since the fourth Indiana Jones film was set in 1957. And in classic Indiana Jones fashion it looks like our hat wearing, whip wielding, archeologist will have another chance to punch some Nazis, with Mikkelsen’s villain being a former scientist for Hitler’s Reich.

Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull, although receiving middling reviews by critics and fans alike, introduced extra-terrestrials into the franchise. With Indiana Jones 5 being set during the space race and the villain a Nazi scientist, this element could come into play once more. Although the inclusion of aliens in the upcoming film is only speculation with no evidence specifically pointing to this, other than the inclusion of NASA and the moon landing initiative.

indiana jones 5 update

It seems like Indiana Jones 5 will be bringing Operation Paperclip into the story, which was the real life clandestine United States program to recruit Nazi scientists after the end of World War II. This included Wernher von Braun an aerospace engineer, who worked for the United States military and was an integral part of NASA’s Apollo program.

In an interview with Collider Mads Mikkelsen shared his excitement about the Indiana Jones 5 script.

“I’m very, very excited about it… I rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day, it is so well-done and so charming, and it’s such great storytelling. So yes it’s a great honor to be part of that franchise that I grew up with… I’m in a lucky position where they let me read the script before. And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great.”

Indiana Jones 5 is set to begin filming in only a few short weeks. The film will be directed by James Mangold. Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Rayne Roberts are producers for the upcoming installment of the Indiana Jones franchise. Legendary composer John Williams will return for as well. The cast includes Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson.
