AEW star Ricky Starks will be out of action for a while after breaking his neck.
On April 21 on an episode of AEW Dynamite Adam Page German suplexed Ricky Starks and the wrestler landed badly. It appears Starks tried to backflip out of the suplex and didn’t clear his head resulting in him landing on the back of his neck. Starks was able to finish the match and played off the bump as something minor on social media.
Ricky Starks Takes A Bad Fall
According to Voices of Wrestling and Wrestling Observer the bad bump resulted in the fracture of his neck. After the bad bump Starks was still involved in matches. Starks tagged with Hobbs in a match which only lasted 32 seconds and Starks was never tagged into the match. It looks like Starks or AEW or perhaps both were taking precautions to not make the injury worse. Most likely Ricky Starks was undergoing tests to see how severe the injury was.
DDP Yoga Saved Starks’ Neck
The good news is the injury is not as bad as a broken neck sounds. He credited DDP and DDP Yoga for his neck being so flexible. DDP for the save yet again. Starks will miss around three months of in-ring action. However, the best news is he will not need surgery to fix his neck. Because of this he can still remain active in AEW as long as it isn’t wrestling. This will allow him to accompany people to the ring and even cut promos. It looks like Ricky Starks isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Ricky Starks is probably best known for his time in NWA and for being the inaugural champion of the revived NWA World Television Championship. Since then Starks made his way over to AEW. Even though he hasn’t won any gold in AEW as of yet he is making a name for himself and has aligned himself with Hobbs. The team may have tag team gold around their waists in the not too distant future.
Does this injury kill all of Ricky Starks’ momentum? Do you think he will get a big push for singles or tag team gold once he is healed up? Who would you like to see be Starks first match back? Perhaps Adam Hangman Page because he is the man who injured him? Do you think he has what it takes to be one of the top stars in AEW? Leave your thoughts and comments below. We here at The Illuminerdi would like to wish Ricky Starks a speedy and pain free recovery.
