Sony’s Spider-Man universe continues to grow as Keanu Reeves has officially been offered the role of Kraven the Hunter in his own solo film.
While Marvel Studios continues to expand on their wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe with the beginning of Phase 4, Sony Pictures is still working hard to build their own story with the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SUMC). After the unexpected success of 2018’s Venom, plans are already in motion for major expansion over the coming years.
Even with multiple pandemic-related delays, Sony has plans for Morbius and Venom: Let There Be Carnage to release in 2021 and 2022. There are also other films in the works as well like Olivia Wilde’s unconfirmed secret Marvel movie and the upcoming Dusk film which we at The Illuminerdi exclusively reported on.
It’s still unclear whether Sony’s universe will ever mix with the MCU in the future, but the studio is staying vigilant in developing their future regardless. In that light, The Illuminerdi has just received word on a potential new casting for the SUMC coming in the near future.
Keanu Reeves Is Kraven the Hunter…If He Chooses
We have received word that Sony has given an official offer to Hollywood megastar Keanu Reeves to star as Kraven the Hunter in his own Sony solo film. The project is being referred to simply as Kraven at this time according to our source. We were also given a description of the tone that the studio is shooting for. Our source described the tone of the movie as a mashup of Man on Fire and Logan.
There is no final decision from either party yet, but the offer is currently out to Keanu Reeves.
The Canadian superstar has been linked to a number of different roles in Marvel projects in the past, most notably the role of Marc Spector’s Moon Knight. This new role puts him squarely as an anti-hero/villain in Sony’s Marvel world, and should he sign on, it would add another huge blockbuster role to his resume.
Kraven is one of the classic Spider-Man villains from the comics, and one that fans have wanted to see on the big screen for a long time. Keanu Reeves would certainly bring the charisma and action chops needed for such an intimidating force.
It will be interesting to find out if and when Reeves signs onto the role officially, and it will continue to be intriguing to see how Sony moves forward with the SUMC over the foreseeable future.
What do you think of this latest Kraven development? What about Keanu Reeves for the role? If he signs, do you think there is time for him to slip into Spider-Man 3? Let us know in the comment section below or over on our social media!
