We take a deep dive into the new Fast 9 teaser trailer that debuted during Super Bowl Sunday.

Fast and The Furious fans got a special treat during one of Super Bowl 55’s commercial breaks, with an official teaser for the upcoming Fast 9 film.

Fast 9, or Fast and The Furious 9, is the tenth installment of the Fast and The Furious film franchise. The film series made it’s debut with its first film, Fast and The Furious in 2001. Even though the first film had mixed reviews from critics, audiences and fans loved it. Thanks to overwhelming fan support of the first film it became a successful franchise. The Fast franchise was able to spawn eight film sequels (and counting), a spin-off film (Hobbs and Shaw), live shows, toys, video games, and theme park attractions.

The Fast film series is also what catapulted the late Paul Walker and Vin Diesel to superstardom. Now we get another look at Fast 9, thanks to Super Bowl 55 and fans are hyped.

Fast 9 Teaser Spot Breakdown

In the beginning of the short teaser trailer we see the film series main character, Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel. We get a glimpse of Toretto’s domestic life with him watching his wife Letty played by Michelle Rodriguez and his son Brian (tribute to the late Paul Walker) from his former lover Elena Neves.

We then see the rest of Dom’s Crew from film series Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges), Dom’s sister Mia Torreto (Jordana Brewster), and other friends that Dom made in the film series have lunch outside his house. Basically the traditional “Family” meal we usually see in the film series.

We then see the mysteriously resurrected Han Lue (Sung Kang) who was thought to be originally killed in Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift and Dom tells Letty how he misses the old life: A life with racing, action, and maybe some heisting?

We are then treated to a series of shots from Fast 9’s action sequences. Those sequences include a motorcycle chase through a forest, a car chase in a city, a race track, and the crew trying to outrace a collapsing building. Basically the typical high action and overly exaggerated action that we all love in the Fast and The Furious series. We also see a glimpse of Magdalene Shaw played by the great Helen Mirren riding in her car and looking badass.

Another highlight is the reveal of the previous film’s main villain Cypher, played by Charlize Theron, before we get a glimpse of film’s main villain Jakob Torreto, played by John Cena. Jakob is reportedly going to be Dom and Mia’s estrange brother who has a personal vendetta against his siblings. It’s also reported that Jakob will be working with Cypher. The teaser spot then ends with the Fast 9 logo.

Fast 9 is going to be one of the most hyped films this year. With the return of most of the cast from the previous films, along with Sung Kang’s Han Lue, fans are excited. The film was originally supposed to be released on May 22, 2020. But due to the Covid-19 pandemic the film release was postponed and is now scheduled to release on May 28, 2021.

A sequel to Fast 9 is also in development. Fast 9 will star Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Han Lue, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron. Also starring in the sequel is Lucas Black, Bow Wow, Jason Tobin, Cardi B, Anna Sawai, Michael Rooker, Finn Cole, Vinnie Bennett, Ozuna, and Francis Ngannou. The film will be produced by Neal H. Mortiz, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Joe Roth, Justin Lin, Clayton Townsend, Samantha Vincent, and Vin Diesel. Screenplay was done by Daniel Casey and Justin Lin. Cinematography was done Stephen F. Windon. Fast 9 was directed by Justin Lin.
