The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, which was originally planned to kick off Marvel’s numerous new Disney Plus series, will feature another familiar face to Marvel fans. Don Cheadle revealed on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast  that he will be reprising his role as James “Rhodey” Rhodes aka War Machine on the highly anticipated series, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.

DON CHEADLE RETURNS TO THE MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE IN THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER

Don Cheadle War Machine

“It’s really a fun and interesting and, by all imagination, completely open-ended — this can go anywhere. It’s great, I can’t wait to get in the room with the writers and figure out how all those things [connecting Armor Wars to the MCU] happen. You know, Rhodey shows up in Winter Soldier and Falcon’s show. So, it can be a lot.”

Many fans expected Don Cheadle’s Rhodey to make his return in Armor Wars, which was announced during the Disney Investor Day presentation and Cheadle is set to star in, so the fact that he is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner is a welcome surprise. Although Don Cheadle has revealed he will be in The Falcon And The Winter Soldier,it is still a mystery just how big Rhodey’s role will be.

The last time fans saw Rhodey he had lost his best friend, Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, during the events of Avengers: Endgame. War Machine making an appearance does make quite a bit of sense given the friendship he and Falcon began to develop in Avengers: Infinity War, with Rhodey searching for Sam after the infamous Snap. Now, Sam without Captain America and Rhodey without Iron Man, the pair have a shared loss that could bond them further in The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.

Don Cheadle appearance in the highly anticipated Marvel series could potentially set up his solo series, Armor Wars. Similar to how Falcon will be dealing with the legacy of Captain America and Steve giving him the shield, Rhodey will be taking care of the legacy of Tony Stark and Iron Man. Many of these Marvel Disney Plus series feature characters from past films and are poised to honor and build off of the last ten years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe first with WandaVision followed by The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, and more including Armor Wars.

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka Falcon and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, aka Winter Soldier. This will be the first Marvel project the two actors lead. The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is set to have a number of familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe faces aside from the titular stars, Emily VanCamp will return as Sharon Carter.
