Destiny vs. Deviation: The Theme For Phase 4 Of The MCU And Beyond

Join us for an in-depth breakdown of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 4 of filmmaking and explain how Destiny and Deviation will affect every MCU project.
mcu phase 4

8. Ms. Marvel (Late 2021)

  • Destiny vs. Deviation:  A Pakistani-American teenage girl finds out that she is actually a member of a genetic deviation of the human race called Inhumans. Enamored with superheroes and fixated on Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan grows into her own new found powers and situations.
  • Probability (99%): We saw a sizzle reel with hardly any context. Not much to draw from yet. This series sticks as close as possible to the comic book origin because the main character’s fan base is bigger than most people realize. Since her story arc has never seen this level of storytelling before, I believe this is destined to be a big hit. Minor characters like Kaboom, Red Dagger should show up. Captain Marvel could make a cameo or more.
  • Possibility (50%) Does The Inventor makes his debut? Maybe The Inhuman Royal Family shows up. Ms Marvel’s story involves the precursor to Secret Wars (The Incursions). We have no idea what story Marvel will tell, besides the origin of how she got her powers.

9. Captain Marvel 2 (11/11/22)*

10. Eternals (11/5/21)*

  • Destiny vs. Deviation: THE MOST IMPORTANT PROJECT IN PHASE 4.  From the mind of Jack “King” Kirby! The original sentient beings of the Universe (The Celestials) have been experimenting on thousands of planets and came to Earth a million years ago to experiment on pre-humans.
  • These scientific space gods created the genetic deviations of the human race in the Deviants & Eternals, and preempt the evolution of homo sapiens (humans) and homo superiors (mutants) with a latent gene. Due to the discovery of superior life on Earth different races try to harvest what they can from the planet. Experimenting on humans while tapping into the latent gene added by The Celestials, The Kree also create another genetic deviation of humans called Inhumans.
  • I didn’t even tell you the plot to the story and you should see why this is so important already. This is the movie that can & will explain why the X-Men (at the very least) are possible. (Even the best scoopers do not have much info on this movie. The plots are being kept hidden well.
  • Probability (79%): Knowing that the Deviant Kro will be a villain increases my expectations to see his relationship with Angelina Jolie’s character, Thena explored. Destined to be the guardians of Earth, the Eternals have to come to grips with their individual challenges and find a way to come together to prevent Tiamut, The Dreaming Celestial (Pyramid of The Winds) from waking up and destroying the world.  We are getting The Celestials (Eson, Arishem, Ziran, Nezzar & Oneg), The Uni-Mind, The Eternals & Deviants. (I am a happy camper and will have a whole bucket of orange slices waiting!)
  • Possibility (65%): We may get to see another very important genetically deviant race, The Atlanteans. Real world legends cause some scholars to believe Lemuria & Atlantis could have been the same land mass in theory. Marvel could make this same historical theory to explain vampires as the original vampire is the Atlantean, Varnae.
  • Thanos & his elder brother Eros are also Eternals. Though Thanos should be presumed dead in the main universe, his story is one of legend and his legacy from the comics could lend itself to Eternals or its sequel (if they have one).
  • Possibility (5%) Inhumans hid from humanity like The Eternals. The scene of Sokovia in the air in Age Of Ultron is lifted straight out of the comics. Appropriated from the story where Ikaris and the Eternals helped Black Bolt & The Inhumans move their home, Attilan to The Himalayas, their influence remains great within MARVEL. It’s a stretch, but with Ms. Marvel set to be released soon after this movie, it isn’t too far fetched for me to imagine “Inhomo Supremis” being mentioned; at the least.

11. Hawkeye (Late 2021)

  • Destiny vs. Deviation: Conflicted by dark side Post-Snap, Clint Barton has lost his best friend in Natasha Romanov but gotten his MCU family (a cinematic deviation of the highest order) back thanks to the success of the “The Time Heist” in Endgame. Taken directly out of David Aja’s Hawkeye run, Clint’s humanity continues to betray him but he remains loyal to doing the right thing. He is destined to pass the mantle of Hawkeye to Kate Bishop.
  • Probability (80%) This is a legacy series so I expect to see nods to Clint Barton’s history in MARVEL as well as getting as much of the Aja run realized on screen.
  • Possibility (50%) The character Echo debuts in this series. She has connective tissue between herself, Clint, Kingpin & Daredevil. Seeing as we have word that Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock from the Netflix Daredevil series) will be in Spider-Man 3, maybe we can see The New York Underworld at work with Daredevil making a cameo alongside Echo hear as well. (pun intended)
  • Jacques Duquesne, The Swordsman is in here (They’ll possibly switch his story around from the comics since he isn’t the real Swordsman anyway…inside joke). The Williams Brothers, Simon (Wonder Man) and Eric (The Grim Reaper) should show up in some way for a little West Coast avenging fun in the sun (this is a nice stretch in the sun as well). Clint is full of surprises and always seems to be involved with the most powerful characters! (This last one is Level III theory. I can come up with some plausible doozies.)

12. She-Hulk (TBD)

  • Destiny vs. Deviation: One of the most popular Marvel female characters, attorney at law Jennifer Walters is destined to need a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, the genetic deviation known as The Hulk. This turns her into She-Hulk. Her inner alpha vs. beta struggle affects her control over her rage and her superpowers. Her moral dilemmas are challenged as she has to defend (or prosecute) genetically deviated individuals from either side of the Sokovia Accords and law.
  • Destined to become an Avenger and a beloved bench player for The Fantastic Four, this highly intelligent, sexy, fun and driven superhero needs to let off a lot of steam.
  • Probability (80%): She-Hulk breaks the 4th wall. I expect the debate over superhuman rights and the Sokovia Accords to be front, center, and on trial.
  • Possibility (80%): Anybody could show up in this series. Many of us are expecting Red Hulk. Since The Abomination is slated to return, I am looking for The Leader as well. Titania was always a favorite nemesis of She-Hulk’s so this could be a sleeper series. It is also highly possible that we see more governmental, legislative & scientific characters as well. Everyone from Bolivar Trask to Valerie Cooper could easily be a part of this story. The TVA could also return after the Loki series here. No telling where this could go, but all lights are green for Shulkie.

13. Moon Knight (TBD)

  • Destiny vs. Deviation: The outlier of the Disney+ Phase 4 series schedule, Marc Spector almost loses his life when he grows a conscience, which leads him to be found by the Egyptian god Khonshu…but he in turn begins to lose his mind. Moon Knight fans would be just fine if Marvel stuck to the script (or should I say scrolls?), but we know this show is destined to do what Daredevil did for Netflix.
  • Probability (80%): We’re getting Egyptology, Werewolves and Dissociative Identity Disorder, Bushman and some of the best fight scenes Marvel has ever done.
  • Possibility (50%): Every crazy bad boy needs a crazy bad girl. I’m all for Tigra to make her entrance here. The setting couldn’t be more perfect. We are too far out to know where Marvel is taking us; even if we were at the last Marvel retreat. Things are still subject to change.

14. Secret Invasion*(TBD)

  • Destiny vs Deviation: Skrulls, Skrulls, Skrulls. We will finally get to see the evil Skrulls hell bent on making the Earth their home world.  Nothing is probable besides that at this point. Anything is possible. Remember how Captain America: Civil War used the title Civil War but barely stuck to the theme? That may be a trend with these types of crossover shows. I only hope Norman Osborne shows his ugly mug by then. I have a deep personal wish for Nick Fury Jr. to show up and this show would be an amazing place for that.
