Fans of the World’s Finest will be saddened to hear that there will not be a crossover event for the CW this year.

In previous CW/DC television crossovers, “Elseworlds” and “Crisis On Infinite Earths”, we saw Batwoman played by Ruby Rose and Supergirl played by Melissa Benoist team up and start the seeds of a CW’s version of the World’s Finest. Now in 2021, we will see Javicia Leslie step into the Bat-cowl as Ryan Wilder and become the new Batwoman.

The World’s Finest Won’t Meet For CW This Year

This “World’s Finest” was set to build on the excitement that the last crossover, “Crisis On Infinite Earths” brought but on a smaller scale. This idea unfortunately has been taken off the board by CW.

The decision is due to the continuation of real life supervillain, COVID-19. It would be hard for both production’s cast and crew to cross-pollinate during the pandemic, which would ultimately heighten the risk of infection. The cancelation of the potential “World’s Finest” crossover also ends the opportunity of seeing Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl interact with Javicia Leslie’s Batwoman before her season ends.

Here is what showrunner Caroline Dries had to say about the decision to cancel the crossover:

“We’re not really able to cross over because physically, we can’t cross crews due to the fear of exposure to COVID…So if Supergirl weren’t ending this year, I would say there would be more of a possibility. But I’m afraid that at least this year, we’re not going to be able to tap into that dynamic.”

So Dries explains that timing of the pandemic and the safety of crew members from both shows were the main reason for the cancelation. However she does seem to infer that there is still a possibility in the future, once COVID-19 is dealt with.

We also got Tyler Hoechlin taking center stage in his new show, Superman & Lois, which is set to take off this Sunday. So there’s still a chance we could see the Man of Steel interact with the new Caped Crusader down the line.
