Aspiring witches and wizards that are waiting for the new Harry Potter based game Hogwarts Legacy are going have to wait. The open world RPG, which was supposed to release later this year has now been delayed till 2022.
Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released a statement on Twitter explaining the delay. They stated that “we would like to thank fans from around the world on the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label”. They then added “”Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us, so we are giving the game the time it needs”. They then concluded the statement by announcing “Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022”.
The news of the game’s delay is a shock, but also understandable. Hogwarts Legacy is set to become the ambitious Harry Potter related game in recent history. So the developers delaying the game just confirms they are taking their time in giving fans a great product that they can experience and enjoy.

With decent to subpar Harry Potter related games that have been released in past, Hogwarts Legacy could change all that. This will be the first time that an open world Harry Potter based game will be developed and released.

The closest thing that to an open world style Harry Potter game was Order Of The Phoenix and Half Blood Prince both released on Playstation 3. There is also the Lego Harry Potter games that were also RPG and somewhat open world based. However those games were linear and had many limitations.
Hogwarts Legacy will be set during the 1800s according to the developers. So it will be set before the events of the Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter films. So this game will give fans a new setting set in the Wizarding World Universe.

The games delay is indeed unfortunate, but very understandable. There have been many high profile games over the years that had potential but were rushed and released unfinished. Due to those games being unfinished on release, players experience bugs, glitches, and crashes (Cyberpunk 2077 original release is a huge example).
Hogwarts Legacy was supposed to be one of the biggest games of this year, but now we have to wait a little while longer. But with this delay it just shows the passion and love these developers are doing and creating for this ambitious game.
Hogwarts Legacy will be releasing on the following game consoles, PC, Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
