Bishop spoke about his casting in a statement via Deadline. He said:

“If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to step on board the TARDIS, I would never have believed it,” said Bishop. “It’s an absolute dream come true to be joining Doctor Who and I couldn’t wish for better company than Jodie [Whittaker] and Mandip [Gill].”

Doctor Who initially aired for 28 seasons from 1963-1989 and was rebooted in 2005.  During the rebooted series, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker have taken the reigns of the TARDIS for fans across the world.  Many of the Doctor’s companions have achieved fame in their own right, including Karen Gillan (Amy Pond), Catherine Tate (Donna Noble), Billie Piper (Rose Tyler), and Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones).
