DC Animation is getting fans ready to travel back in time to the swinging seventies with Batman: Soul Of The Dragon.

The animated movie is produced and directed by Sam Liu, who was worked on previous DC movies such as Reign of the Superman, Superman: Red Son, and Batman: The Killing Joke. The movie promises kick-butt action scenes in this latest addition to the DC animated film slate. With the positive success of Superman: Man Of Tomorrow, DC is continuing to bank on some of its top characters to bring in fans.

The movie’s plot revolves around Batman teaming up with legendary martial artists from DC comics’ lore, such as Lady Shiva, Richard Dragon, and Ben Turner (AKA Bronze Tiger) to stop a terrorist group known as “Kobra” from taking over the world.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon Trailer

The animation found in Batman: Soul of the Dragon looks spot on and exceedingly impressive so far. Then again, with DC legend Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) on board, it’s hard to expect anything less. The movie is credited as being rated R for some violence, which may be a exaggerated decision rather than it be PG-13. This may have many fans remembering the last R-rated DC animated movie, The Killing Joke and the mixed impression it left behind.

Judging from the Batman: Soul of the Dragon trailer, the action looks to be incredible and will be the main focus in the movie. The trailer shows off a martial arts heavy flick, that definitely pays homage to action movies like Bruce Lee’s Fist Of Fury and The Way of the Dragon.
