The third entry to Fantastic Beasts film and Wizarding World franchise has gotten a new release date.

Warner Bros. Studios announced that the film would be pushed back to July 15, 2022. Originally the film was supposed to premiere next year in November of 2021. The film’s delayed release should not be a surprise, given the swell of stories and rumors around it recently.

The Fantastic Beasts 3 Delay Is Not Unexpected

Fantastic Beasts 3’s new release date comes after the announcement of star Johnny Depp’s exit. Depp was supposed to reprise his role as the main antagonist Dark Wizard Gellert Grindewald. But due to his legal accusations against him from his former wife, actress Amber Heard, Depp was forced to leave the project. The studio is currently looking for another A-List actor to replace Depp and recast the role of Grindewald.

According to Entertainment Weekly, suggestions for replacements are actors Ewan McGregor, Matt Smith, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Colin Farrell reprising the role as the fake Grindewald in the first Fantastic Beasts film. Only time will tell when Warner Bros announced who will they recast the role of Grindewald.

The third Fantastic Beasts film is currently in production, shooting in the United Kingdom. The story details of the upcoming film are minimal. However, author and franchise creator J.K Rowling did give a few details of the film’s plot. She explained that the third film will be set during the start of World War 2 and its setting will take largely take place in Rio de Janeiro. So it should be interesting to see the Wizarding World being set in South America.

The upcoming Fantastic Beasts film will be the third installment in the franchise. It will be the eleventh film entry of the Wizarding World Franchise.

Actors set to return include Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, and many others from the previous two films. David Yates who directed the first two Fantastic Beasts films and the last four Harry Potter fims will return to direct the upcoming film. While author J.K Rowling and screenwriter Steve Kloves will script the film.

Fantastic Beasts 3 is now scheduled to premiere on July 15, 2022.
