Power Rangers is getting ready to start a new comic legacy in November with the arrival of Mighty Morphin / Power Ranger. The two comics which feature both teams of the omegas and the seven Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on their new adventures.
With comic retailers finalizing their orders on Mighty Morphin #1, the launch seems to be the 2nd highest title of the Power Rangers franchise since the 1st issue of MMPR in 2016, which outsold various Marvel titles and is higher than the opening issue of the Shattered Grid comic event.
With BOOM! Studios releasing two comics back to back it is different when publishers release two comics of the same character as Marvel releasing The Amazing Spider-Man and Sensational Spider-Man.
Mighty Morphin featuring the seven rangers (Tommy, Kim, Billy, Aisha, Adam, Rocky, and the yet to be revealed Green Ranger) are looking to be the secondary comics as fans and retailers are looking more forward to the adventures of the Omega Rangers (Jason, Zach, and Trini) as the orders for Power Rangers #1 has a number of 62,000 which is 25 percent more than Mighty Morphin.
The sales numbers are looking to change as retailers missed the opportunity to snatch a cover made by artist Goni Montes which is made with both series first issue.
The hype over the new cover has blossomed so much that preorders of Montes creation are on eBay for $65 dollars so far.
What does this all mean for you? Well, it definitely is showing off the appreciation and number of readers who are enjoying these new adventures and details that were not able to be looked at during the live-action run. BOOM! Studios is also playing on the love of collectors by releasing covers like the first issue of both connecting an image of all the rangers. Boom is still releasing issues that include the old series numbering as special variant covers of both respective series’.
The two series by themselves will definitely bring in fans but the overall incentive will be how the set of ranger teams together deal with their problems. Power Rangers start off with the Omegas returning to earth and seeking their friends to take on a new evil called Empyreal. Retailers underestimated Mighty Morphin last week, they may have learned with the release of Power Rangers #1 this week.
