WB Eyeing Isabella Moner And Leslie Grace For Cyclone In Black Adam: Exclusive

Warner Brothers are currently interested in two rising actors for the role of Maxine Hunkel, aka Cyclone, in the upcoming Black Adam.

The long-awaited DC film may lack a release date right now, but that has not prevented the wheels of development from rolling onward. Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, and Sarah Shahi, have officially joined the cast, playing Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Isis respectively. In addition, two official animated trailers were revealed at DC FanDome, narrated by our one very own Teth-Adam, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

While DC FanDome 2021, 2022 – and who knows, maybe even 2023 – may take place before this film sees release, we are definitely going to see it…eventually. Until then, you can always count on us here at The Illuminerdi to put the puzzle pieces together, hopefully before the trades do. Take Cyclone for example.

Cyclone in Black Adam

A HISTORY OF CYCLONE IN BLACK ADAM

The Illuminerdi previously revealed that she would be a part of the film on February 3, and the DC FanDome teaser for the JSA which officially confirmed her inclusion was released on August 22. Two days before that, on August 20, we revealed that Warner Brothers was searching for an “Alexandra Shipp type” to play Cyclone.

Today marks another great day for fans of the Justice Society’s foremost expert in windbased vigilantism – assuming you enjoy the finer things in life, like Colgate Toothpaste, Transformers: The Last Knight, and singer-songwriter Leslie Grace.

Leslie Grace: The Face Of Colgate

Isabella Moner, of the aforementioned Michael Bay trash fire (easy target, I know) and Leslie Grace of the upcoming In The Heights film are two actors being considered for the role. Now, maybe these actors have something in common with Alexandra Shipp, but I can’t find any solid connection.

That being said, this wouldn’t be the first time Black Adam pivoted on a casting decision. While I am thrilled that Aldis Hodge is our Hawkman, as opposed to say…Alexander Skarsgard, I find it interesting that the JSA teaser version of Hawkman looks nothing like Aldis Hodge.

THE STUDIO IS INTERESTED

Now, my personal grumblings aside, I’d like to state  that Moner or Grace could potentially do well in the role of Cyclone. I just have no reason to believe that would be the case right now. Truthfully, I really wanted to watch Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and I heard Instant Family was good, but as of right now, my only exposure to Moner is through the fifth Transformers movie.

Now, if they get cast, I’ll do my research and explore their fascinating filmography. Until that happens, this may never be anything more than an interesting footnote in the behind the scenes story of the film. Sometimes, studios express interest in one actor and ultimately go a very different direction. This is simply a part the entertainment industry. I want to make it abundantly clear that the casting team could once again change their minds regarding who to cast as the next JSA member.

AN ESSENTIAL ROLE

Truth be told, there are several other fantastic actors out there who could nail the role of Cyclone. Cyclone will be an important player in the film, and so finding the right actor is essential to the Justice Society’s arc in the film. Furthermore, Cyclone would almost certainly play a key role in the DCEU Justice Society of America spin-off film, should Warner Brothers move ahead with the film.

In addition to Cyclone, fans are still eagerly awaiting official casting announcements for Doctor Fate and Sabbac. Marwan Kenzari is currently being considered for the villainous role of Sabbac, otherwise known as Ishmael.
