Starro, is that you? We have some exciting news to share about The Suicide Squad before the DC Fandome panel, which airs today at 2:55 EST. Be sure to stay tuned for our coverage of the panel.

Earlier today, Splashreport.com claimed that Idris Elba would be playing Bloodsport, which was corroborated by KC Walsh of TheGWW.com. This was further confirmed through a leaked promotional image of the film which can be seen below.

While that reveal is certainly exciting, the real bombshell in the Splash Report story is that the main villain of the film will be none other than the classic JLA supervillain Starro!

What Do We Know About Starro?

We were able to confirm the validity of their report with our sources, and are very excited to see Starro The Conqueror in live action. For those unfamiliar with Starro, it is an alien that resembles a starfish with the ability to reproduce countless miniature versions of itself that then latch onto the face of it’s victims, not unlike the Xenomorph facehugger.

These Starro facehuggers take over the mind and body of those it latches onto, allowing it to take over entire planets in a relatively brief amount of time.

Additionally, Starro possesses superhuman strength, the ability of flight, and regenerative capabilities. With all of these powers in it’s arsenal, Starro is poised to become an extremely formidable foe of Task Force X.

My only problem with Starro’s inclusion in the film is that this element of possession was also seen in the original Suicide Squad film, with Enchantress’ magic turning soldiers and civilians into mindless monsters. While the similarity is mostly superficial, it does evoke concern about how far James Gunn’s film will go to differentiate itself from its predecessor.

Additionally, it appears that Peter Capaldi’s character has been confirmed to be none other than The Thinker, as seen in the same image that revealed Elba’s role. Exactly which version of the supervillain will be portrayed on screen remains to be seen. More information on Starro, Bloodsport, and The Thinker will hopefully be revealed in a few hours.

The Suicide Squad features Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Idris Elba (Bloodsport), Peter Capaldi (The Thinker), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Steve Agee (King Shark), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), and John Cena, Storm Reid, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, Pete Davidson, Alice Braga, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, Taika Waititi, Joaquin Cosio, Mayling Ng, Juan Diego Botto, Tinashe Kajese, Julion Ruiz and Jennifer Holland in undisclosed roles. The DCEU film is currently slated for release on August 6, 2021.
