An Old Foe Appears In POWER RANGERS: Drakkon New Dawn Issue #1: REVIEW

The latest Power Rangers comic spin-off is here in the form of Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn, a continuation of the Power Rangers: Ranger Slayer one-shot released back in June.

The Ranger Slayer one-shot saw the Coinless version of Kimberly Hart (formerly known as the Ranger Slayer) taking the thrown from the seemingly deceased Lord Drakkon and trying to pick up the pieces and bring her world back to some sort of normality.

This issue sees Kimberly freeing a group of Coinless from an old containment center run by Drakkon where see finds and unknown Ranger prisoner trapped deep in the containment center. Kimberly frees the prisoner and takes him back to the castle where she asks him who he is. The prisoner says that he has no idea who he is but does know what Drakkon kept him locked up.

The prisoner said that Drakkon was basically keeping him as a pet. Whenever Drakkon would concur a world he would go to gloat to the prisoner and I assume beat him as well. Kimberly then frees the prisoner even though he is explicitly telling her not to. Once he is free he tells Kimberly that she has no idea what she is done. It is then revealed that Elicptor has been called to Earth by an old message by Drakkon and the issue ends.

The Verdict For Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn #1

Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn #1 Cover Variant

Overall I thought this was an interesting start this miniseries. While the new ranger stuff was definitely intriguing and I can’t wait to see where they go from here, I found that to be the only thing I was caring about in this issue.

One thing I really liked about Rangers Slayer Issue #1 was how they showed what just general life was like on the World of the Coinless. In this issue, I felt like we lost some of that with the heavy main focus on the new ranger.

That being said I am super excited to find out who this ranger is and what Ecliptor has to do with everything that is going on in the World of the Coinless.
