Weezer released a new single, “The Beginning of the End,” as well as a music video as part of the Bill & Ted Face The Music soundtrack and their third single off of the heavily delayed Van Weezer album.
Along with the new single, the band announced through social media this morning that Van Weezer will now be released in May 2021 to coincide with the delayed Hella Mega Tour that was supposed to happen this summer. The album was originally scheduled to be released on May 15h, 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release of the album was delayed.
Weezer’s Music Video For Bill and Ted Face The Music
The 80s-inspired music video has Weezer auditioning to open for Wyld Stallyns and features a cameo by Bill & Ted stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. This is most likely a reference to the fact that Weezer’s first gig was as an opening act for Keanu Reeve’s band Dogstar in March of 1992. The duo likes what they hear, but requests that Weezer play a KISS song before the video abruptly ends. Fans of the Bill and Ted series will recall the use of the KISS song “God Gave Rock and Roll To You” as the closing song to Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
As part of the same Twitter thread announcing the new single, the super band also not-so-cryptically dropped a hint of some new music coming in the future with the tweet, “More music coming for you Humans real soon, Ok?”
Fans will find no surprise here as the album scheduled to be release after Van Weezer is rumored to be titled, OK Human. Many are speculating that the group may possibly release OK Human before Van Weezer, similar to how they released the Teal Album before the Black Album just last year.
Bill & Ted Face The Music, along with the soundtrack, releases on-demand and in select theaters on August 28th. The soundtrack features music from other rock bands including Cold War Kids, Lamb of God, Mastodon and the Wyld Stallyns themselves. Are you pumped for the movie?
