Shazam 2 Looks To Start Filming Spring 2021: Exclusive

The DC universe continues to grow as we've found when WB hopes to go into production on Shazam 2.

Here at TheIlluminerdi.com, we’ve been proud to bring you exclusive looks and updates at the upcoming Black Adam movie. While we can’t wait for the arrival of more Black Adam news, today we’re going to shift gears and focus on Black Adam’s much more well known and valiant successor, Shazam, in the still-untitled Shazam 2.

Zachary Levi and Asher Angel brought Billy Batson and his alter ego to life in 2019’s Shazam!, directed by David F. Sandberg. The film set up a sequel with an alien worm named Mister Mind, one of Shazam’s greatest enemies, as a likely antagonist, though this has yet to be officially confirmed. The currently untitled Shazam 2 will see Shazam! writer Henry Gayden and producer Peter Safran returning alongside director David F. Sandberg.

We have learned that the sequel, which is currently set to release on November 4, 2022, is set to begin filming in the spring of 2021. This will provide the film with a generous amount of time in post-production to fine tune the visual effects. Since it’s quite probable that Shazam! 2 will flesh out the seven realms of magic, this timetable can only help the film. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the entertainment industry is in a constant state of flux due to COVID-19, and while it’s possible that filming has to be delayed due to our country’s ridiculous inability to consistently wear masks, the plan right now is for Shazam! 2 to film next spring

Shazam 2

You can expect more information and updates on Shazam 2 on August 22nd at DC Fandome, which is featuring a Shazam panel. I would also like to add that if Black Adam moves it’s release date back, like we think it will, that would make 2022 an incredible year for fans of the Shazam universe. Follow that up with a battle between the two terrific titans in either Black Adam 2 or Shazam 3, as Zachary Levi said would happen, and DC will ideally have achieved some of it’s finest work in the DCEU.

Stay tuned for our coverage of any and all new developments in the Shazam 2 story, and let us know what you’d like to see in the film in the comments below or on our social media!
