Tom Cruise is in talks to make a cameo appearance in Netflix’s upcoming big budget film Red Notice.

Red Notice stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and is written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. Thurber and Johnson previously worked together on high-octane action film Skyscraper and the action comedy Central Intelligence. Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman herself, joined the cast of the action comedy as the female lead. Gadot and Johnson have worked together in the films Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 from The Fast And The Furious franchise.

Red Notice is set in the world of international crime with Johnson’s character chasing after an art thief who has a Red Notice put out on them by Interpol, which is a global alert to hunt down and capture the world’s most wanted. Johnson will be playing “the world’s greatest tracker.” Gadot will be playing “the world’s greatest art thief” and Reynolds will be playing “the world’s greatest con man.”

Red Notice’s Surprising Potential Addition

Tom Cruise Space

Red Notice has an impressive star-studded cast and we here at The Illuminerdi have learned that the cast could be adding another big name. According to our sources, Tom Cruise is in talks to make a cameo appearance in Red Notice. Now, a cameo appearance might seem a bit small for someone like Cruise, but it looks like this would be a set-up for a larger role in a sequel to the globe-trotting comedy heist. While the talks are on-going, if they are unable to come to a deal, the production is looking for a star of similar magnitude as Cruise. Which is a very short list of Hollywood stars.

The movie began filming in January 2020, but like many other productions it has been on hold since March due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemicJohnson originally posted a message about the delay on his Instagram, assuming at the time that the delay would only be for a couple weeks. Obviously it has lasted quite a bit longer.

Reynolds joked while talking with Jimmy Fallon remotely for The Tonight Show that they likely would have finished the film had he not spent a lot of his time working to make his costar Johnson laugh. Johnson and Reynolds have both stated that the movie is about halfway through production so there’s definitely time for Cruise to make an appearance.

Red Notice has had a bit of a storied past with the film planned to be released by Universal initially, but the studio balked at the budget, which is estimated to be over $150 million, and backed out. Following this, Red Notice was shopped around and quickly picked up by Netflix. When Netflix acquired the film, Ryan Reynolds joined the cast as well. Reynolds and Johnson worked together previously in Hobbs & Shaw where Reynolds had a short cameo.

Red Notice will be bringing the producing team behind Skyscraper back together with Thurber not only writing and directing, but producing under his Bad Version Inc., Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia for their Seven Bucks Productions, and Beau Flynn of Flynn Picture Co. Scott Sheldon will also be serving as executive producer.

Red Notice

Red Notice was previously slated to be released by Universal November 13, 2020. However, after it was acquired by Netflix and now with the halted production it is expected to probably come out sometime in 2021.

What do you think about Tom Cruise possibly appearing in Red Notice? Would you want Tom Cruise to star in the sequel? Are you excited to see Johnson, Reynolds, and Gadot in the Netflix film? Leave your thoughts in the comments below or in our social media.
